The rules stipulate that awards can be given only for a film released during that year of eligibility and only ROTK was released during last year. And the nomination forms read "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" not "Lord of the Rings: The Whole Damn Series". So Academy voters should have looked at that film only. Like I said, if they want to give something because of the achievements of the whole series, give them some new Special Achievement award.
