Yes, Stable is the answer. Sorry, it didn't appear that a reply had been posted so I didn't see it a while back.

I'm assuming that the question in your riddle is how he knows it?

I'll go out on a limb here... one of the other applicants is wearing glasses and the guy who guesses correctly can see his reflection in the glasses.
