Mike, are you still working on your new "duel" page? I assume you are, but right now I just see excerpts from the press release. Those excerpts are so damn funny without any commentary necessary. You should have them on your home page they're so good. Even better than the "deliberate creative decision" press release.

Yes, I'm still working on it. I'm about 70% of the way done. Remember, doing the website is an entirely separate job, and it lags behind the actual work... Stay Tuned.

Hi all

Mike, I PM'ed you about this particular issue, you're a busy man, I think we can all appreciate that!

What are you going to do about restoring footage from the OT into your legacy edition? eg, Sebastian Shaw at the end of Jedi and the original Emperor (Clive Revil) from "Empire". As Laserman has commented in other threads, the OT-bootleg DVD's don't stack up against the 2004 editions in terms of quality. I plan on doing my own restoration of these particular scenes in the future and am looking for a good place to start!

It may take me awhile to respond sometimes, but I read every message, so just hang in there...

As to your question, restored scenes will be sourced from laserdisc, and processed using proprietary software... you'll see examples of this in ANH in time...

Mverta, I hope to get some time on the scanner when I get back in a fortnight - I'll do at least a Starfield scan for you. What rez do you want the image at?
I may be able to get hold of a '97 SE release complete on film of SW and ROTJ (except unfortunately for the last reel of ROTJ) , are there any segments of interest on the 97SE? (i.e. scenes that were still the same as the 77 release, but were since changed on the DVD)
My knowledge of the 97SE is very limited....

Except that the scene is on the last reel, which I have been unable to source so far.
If anyone can get hold of one let me know

I will only have it for a few days, so if anyone could tell me which scenes from the 97 SE are worth grabbing, please let me know ASAP.

The only things I can think of would be from the last reel.

Vader's unmasking
Vader's ghost

And that, I think, is all that's salvageable from the 97 version that's not on the DVD...

Trust me, you can only rotoscope lightsabers for so many days before you need a break. The duel between Obi and Darth was intense. I'll update that section, plus the TIEs vs Falcon section before year's out.

Ummmmm...I hope that I didn't kill this thread. I was being a wiseass. I was just suggesting that your work is as good or better than ILM's. I am in awe at the meticulous work that you are doing...especially at removing the matte lines from the scene when Ben shut down the tractor beam. Please...keep up the great work.

Wipe them out...all of them.

I don't know if you've made a recent change to your website but for about a week now I've been unable to get any joy out of your pull down restoration menu. nothing happens.

this is using IE 6.1 on WinXP, also Mozilla Firefox 1.0.

neither of then show anything beyond the opening restoration page which is accesible through a seperate menu link. the pulldown doesn't do anything at all.

I just wanted to point out that Ben Burtt has said, more than once, that the mono mix was considered the "final" and most complete mix of the original theatrical edition of the film.

I'm just SURE this exists out there somewhere. I'll obviously have a list together by the time I'm done, but for now, I'm learning a lot as I go. There are a lot of things that are obvious, but a number of things that you only start to see during a frame-by-frame analysis.

Well I can say that there isn't a single SE or DVD change that goes unnoticed. The work is so incongruous that it immediately calls attention to itself, so while I'm not watching the other versions in parallel, I almost can't see needing to. You certainly can't miss the digital stuff... If I even have a question about a shot, then sure enough it turns out to be a change. The only example I can think of in Star Wars, one that I actually missed my first time around, was the extended corridor in the detention cell. That's the only truly seamless addition I can find. On the flip side, there is a scene on the DVD where R2 and 3PO are in the sandcrawler, and for one cut, R2's rear logic display has suddenly changed from green to blue. I was sure it was just color problem #1,325,632 with the DVD, but I found it on my VHS copy as well!
