Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD * — Page 173

It was a good trailer on its own, but I feel like it's harder to judge it having seen so much of the footage in the teasers, etc. Was hoping for a bit more than we haven't seen already, but in the end I'll be glad that they've held so much back.

Where were you in '77?

You know, when it aired on TV, I hated the hyperspace shot, but on repeat viewing I'm in love with it.

I really hope Rey wasn't crying for the reason I think she was crying.

It "looks" cool.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

My tear ducts were on standby for a Luke tease at the end.

I suspect she's crying over Max Von Sydow's character biting it. Hopefully.

My other thoughts. Same Luke scene we had with the second teaser. Nothing new with him.

The guys crowding around Kylo in the rain in the middle of the trailer are probably the other Knights of Ren.

No Snoke.

Lots of action sequences.

Looks like we wait two more months to find out anything else.

That didnts look like Max Von Sydow unless he has a beard that covers his chest.

I know. I'm hoping that's not the case.

Notice the scene with Luke and R2 in this trailer. Just after it you see Kylo's shuttle landing in what looks like the same fiery environment. I doubt Luke is running around where Kylo is at. So right now I'm of the mind that its not a snow scene. Just a similar looking one. I could be very wrong on this, of course.

Maybe an injured/dead Finn? He is seen fighting Kylo at the end. Might have got his arm chopped off.

Too much CGI!! I hated it! It looks like a videogame! Wah! Wah! ??

The True Prequels are "Darth Plagueis & Labyrinth of Evil" by James Luceno and the "Revenge of the Sith" Novelization by Mathew Stover!

 That's no beard...

The trailer came across more like an extended teaser.  Seems like many (if not most) of the rumors are true.

JJ gets my hopes up a lot so I can't be too happy yet.  But so far that trailer looked great.  It was more of a teaser and that's what it should be.  It shouldn't give away too much info.  It just needs to make me want to see it.  Job done!  Do not make one more trailer.  Unless it's a teaser with Luke in it.  I want the lady in the movie to be Han and Leigha's daughter.  Then Luke shows up and starts being all Obi Wan in the next three movies.  Don't kill Han till next movie though.

 Exactly.

Well, a good trailer trumps a bad poster any ol' day of the week... and that was a damn good trailer.

Of course, we've all seen great trailers for crappy movies before (it's become something of a genre unto itself in 21st Century cinema), so, as previously mentioned, my optimism (though now tamped up) remains cautious.

I will say that Kylo's voice comes across much better here than it did in the clips of the talking action figure (as one would have every reason to expect, really). And were those fellow Ren Knights loitering about with him in the rain?

Ah, forget I asked... I think it's time to step back from any more spoilers or speculations and just let the film speak for itself. Two more moons to go, gents...

Someone on reddit played with the brightness and contrast in that shot a bit and now I'm fairly convinced she's crying over an injured Finn.

I'm... less thrilled than the rest of you I guess. It made me worry that this will be a rehash of the PT in the Opposite direction. The PT was "look how big and intense and amazing we can make everything with CG". I'm a little worried the ST is going to turn out to be "look how big and intense and epic we can make everything look with as many practical effects as possible, then touch it up with CG to prove it can work to combine the two".

The OT was based on the premise of "I want to tell a story, how do we make these relevant character-developing events appear on the screen in a believable way".

Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan
6-9: Hal9000

Finn was about to fight Kylo Ren in that snowy environment.  Rey seems to be crying over someone in a similar environment.  The right side of the figure seems to be hairy like Chewie, but the left side does not.  I think it may be Chewie holding a dead or injured Finn.

He may have been holding a lightsaber, but I still don't think he's a jedi.  It is Luke's old saber, he is holding on to it throughout the movie while they attempt to find Luke, and he happens to use it when the time seems right.  And one of those times is when Kylo Ren attacks him.  He dies, or loses a limb, and Rey and Chewie find him moments later.
