These sorts of things have been around for a while. It harkens back to the series's earlier, more fantastical influences.
The upcoming "new" Blu ray Complete Saga Set features Darth Vader with activated lightsaber virtually walking towards the viewer.
IMO those over-dramatized Darth Vader posings do not fit his OT character at all. All these promo images are somehow based on Vaders ESB body language when reached out to Luke in Bespin. With the Prequels, especially when ROTS came out, i noticed all those cereal boxes, puzzels, action figures, etc. with Vader doing these *hand-in-the-air-cloak-in-the-wind-floating* posings. Vader would never do such stupid stuff. Imagine in the original Star Wars Vader stands in such a dumb drama pose when he waits for Obi-Wan in the Death Star corridor.
Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

Never tell me the odds.

Batmanization of Vader, you say?
Over-the-top drama you say?
STAR WARS was seen for years as "too nerdy", so the new marketing makes it "faster, more intense", so that it appears more angsty. You would surely agree we already had examples of messed-up characters' characters in the EU (expecially in comics).
It sucks just as mixing STAR WARS with things such as Angry Birds...
Well, it's a shame mainly because JJ Abrahams is exactly the kind of person you would expect not to be able to complete a phrase without using either "cool", "great", "badass" or "epic".
All the blockbuster american cinema has become that, some years ago.
You just need to see how Kylo Ren stomps his feet in the ground when he activates his sabre in TFA's first teaser; it just screams "whooaaaa, EPIC", and compare it with how matter-of-fact Vader is in everything he does, with a very defined characteristic of coldness, tranquility, lack of enthusiasm and even elegance.

The foot stomping thing could play into his his personality just like Vader's movements plays into his.
Yes, but it's a stereotypical personality, the un-stable histrionic maniac with superpowers. and I'm 100% it's done like that because "it looks cool"
If I had superpowers, I wouldn't be so emotional or theatrical in my behaviour...mainly because almost nothing could interfere with me, isn't it logical?

If I had Force Abilities I would do something similar to shake up my opponent. Also the foot stomping this could be only something he does when he is in the midst of combat. His personality can be far different from that in other circumstances.

Exactly. I always loved how in ESB he is the second to draw the sword... and the "good guy" is the one attacking. ;)
An example I recall from some mediocre EU pulp:
SomeBadGuy: Yes, Sir!
Vader turns around: "yes, My Lord!"
Sounds very unvaderish to me. Like some weakling whining "I demand respect!".
Try saying the title of this thread three times fast. ;)
Where were you in '77?
That's disgusting!

On the other hand, it's perfectly in character for PT Anakin.

Personally, I'd act like a blind person who's fallen and can get up.
The stuff for ANH back in the day did the same kind of stuff....not new.
Fantastical representations have been with us since day one. Still my favorite piece of Star Wars artwork by far and the only one I have any interest in owning. Also perfectly captures how the film has always felt to me emotionally.
Darth Vader ... ready to battle a hideous rebel wind machine:

With each passing moment, Star Wars makes itself more for the masses. It is unavoidable :|
