Thanks, I watched the whole thing. That was fun. It is rather desaturated, IMO. I'm surprised by how little damage there is after the cleaning.

I noticed a little desync around the reel change.

Thanks for the comments. The sound was not from the original, so the sync wasn't quite right. Once the parts are put back together, it will be adjusted properly.

The film didn't have that much damage to begin with, surprisingly clean =)

A far cry from the first time I saw the movie--the projector ate it! They had to cancel the movie and we came back another day.

This film actually has quite a bit of damage on it. It depends on what you view it on, and the severity of the dirt. It's there throughout most of the film.

Your tolerance might be less for it though.

We're completing work on this version, and hopefully in a few weeks, we can preview a 1st pass on the cleanup.

Great! Please also do consider releasing the full uncropped open matte version in the future. Please!
Thanks in advance!

I think it's great that there will be another version to add to the collection.  I am eagerly awaiting your results with this.  I've enjoyed PDB n Doombot's release of the scan they had done.  The film look was very cool.

Maybe in the future we'll get JP 2 & 3 in a film scan version as well.  It would make for a great little box set especially since we have the cinema DTS to go with them.

Cheers!!!!

Yes, they'll be great, especially because the current BD masters are not the original theatrical colour timed versions. Also, the prints all have a larger frame size and are open-matte, which would make for a great IMAX-like viewing when edited like that.
Once someone here releases the open matte version of JP, I am planning on making an imax version of JP with a taller frame. This is why I was requesting a 1080p downscale of the prores file.

An odd reel of JP2 was available on ebay -

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/35mm-Feature-ODD-REEL-from-THE-LOST-WORLD-JURASSIC-PARK-Steven-Speilberg-/252007107666?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3aaccb4c52

The listing has ended. But it was only reel 3. Anyway, one can browse through the pictures which have a much more warm and gorgeous colour timing than any home video versions so far. I am trying to get a emv equipped debit card so I can contribute funds to those who bring us these amazing 35mm features.

Are there plans to release a full frame open matte version of this print? I know that (from what I read) the CGI shots are hard matted to a widescreen ratio but I would like to see how the film looks in full open matte, if only for archival purposes.

Just repeat to yourself “It’s just a film, I should really just relax”

The matted widescreen ratio is taller than 1.78:1. More like 1.72:1. I read somewhere that because European screens are mostly 1.66:1, spherical movies were left full aperture and the VFX matted to a ratio slightly taller than 1.78:1, so that 1.85:1 movies could be projected with a taller 1.66:1 frame. So, in all likelihood, many European theatres projected JP in 1.66:1. The presence of additional vertical information certainly helped in that regard. I know for a fact that The terminator (1984) was similarly projected 1.66:1 on EU screens.  So, having the Full uncropped Jurassic Park scan downrezzed to 1080p would be a treat to say the least! I have requested the guys who have the prores file to give us a chance to see it as it's a once in a lifetime opportunity, because in all likelihood none of us may ever get our hands on a theatrical print of the movie in the future, forget getting a 4K scan done. Where I live, these services are not available; rare prints aren't sold or collected. Here the mantra is "go with the flow".

I can understand if forum members or owners of the scan get frustrated at me asking for the version, but I love JP a lot not to ask for it. I do want to see the entire frame, boom microphones, frame edges and all. It can be a special version giving us lots of first hand visuals regarding how a film is shot. And the open matte version will allow other members, including myself to create our own respective fan editions.

Sorry, if I've annoyed others by my posts. I apologise for that.

Any update on this?

Awesome, can't wait to see how this is progressing. Was very underwhelmed with the 2D version of the BD.

Any release of an open matte scan would be very appreciated!

I've been a fan of this movie since its theatrical release and would love to see all of the image where possible. Intended or not!

Where does one go to get the Poita scan?

Myspleen or Blu-torrents

I think he might be referring to the original uncropped scan, not the 16-9 version at myspleen.

This is the 35mm JP that’s on Myspleen, right? Are there chapter times available anywhere? I’d like to put it on a disc.
