Our pumpkins would all freeze by the time you guys have your Thanksgiving. ;)

Sx5e.  I hope my board is right because that seems like an error on your part.

So tell me a little of the history of your Thanksgiving.  What is the main reason that is the Canadian day of Thanksgiving?  And how was your holiday this year? :)

Depends on your definition of "mistake." ;)

I didn't know too much of the history of Canadian Thanksgiving before looking it up, but it seems that we in Canada only started celebrating Thanksgiving annually in 1879. Before that, there were years when it was celebrated in May-August, often in response to specific events, like the ends of wars. It was either in October or November for a while, finally ending up on the second Monday of October for most years after 1931, which became official in 1957.

I think the choice of date is mostly due to the fact that the harvest is long over and it is winter by the time the American Thanksgiving rolls around. Our first snowfall is generally in October, with the snow coming to stay in early to mid November (by which point it is regularly ten degrees below, which I think is about 15 degrees F).

Gosh, I can't even imagine such weather.  When we hit temps that low, it's a particularly cold winter day, and may hit once a year or less where I live.  We don't even reach freezing most days in a winter.

Thanks for sharing the Thanksgiving info.

And now I must confess that you are playing very well.  This may be the game of my undoing.  I think you haven't yet beaten me in a regular shogi match, though you have in some of our variants (correct me if I'm wrong), but this may terminate my streak. :)

There's a reason so many Canadians go down to Arizona for at least part of the winter. ;)

I think the only regular shogi game I won was when you played without a rook. :P We'll see how it goes this time. You've still got a fairly good defense around your king.

Well, I'm pretty sure you got me this time.  Even though I'm about to get your rook, I'm still seriously down in material.

Kx8i uncheck ;)

Surprised you didn't go for the gold.  Perhaps you are thinking of dropping a lance to check me again.

Correct, though I don't know that it was really my best option.

Well, I think you may have done better otherwise, but you are still kicking my trash.  As Han Solo would say, "I don't know how [I'm] gonna get outta this one."

I've still got your gold general there....

Oops.  I meant 4i.  That is where I placed my rook on my board.  Just typed the wrong coordinates.

Dang it.  For some reason I thought I had this figured differently.  Now you're going to get away.

My two rooks are currently not much help, and you've got a nice little reserve army just waiting for deployment orders. :(

They may not be any good for offense at the moment, but if you use them right, you'll be able to keep me away from your king for a while (unless I think of something clever ;)).
