Until someone assures this board that the film does not contain

  • universe shrinkage
  • teal-and-orange color timing
  • "bad" CG
  • references to the prequels
  • only 3 lightsabre colors
  • references to the SE

we won't, as a whole, be satisfied

I didn't know there was such consensus on the matter of lightsaber colors.

Oh, there isn't, but for total satisfaction...

TIE's seem dependent on a base ship intentionally. You don't want anyone defecting to those Rebel scum, not that anyone would.

Isn't that pretty much the plot of TFA?

Crashing on a nearby planet with your base ship in the neighborhood, (or so I presume) isn't quite the clean getaway one would want.

As Duracell pointed out , TIE's never had hyperspace capability in the OT. Even Ben in the original film says they're short range fighters.

Maybe the interceptors didn't perform too well in ROTJ? Or at least they didn't outperform the older design?

This is what I was thinking. Maybe Interceptors are the Imperial equivalent of A-Wings rather than a successor to standard TIEs.

Pretty much what the EU established. The TIE-Interceptor is, well, an interceptor. More of a high-speed specialized anti-bomber craft than a general multi purpose fighter.

The X-Wing board game's upcoming TFA expansion lists several of the new TIE/fo squadrons - Zeta, Epsilon, Omega. Pretty cool, since that's how Imperial squadrons were named in the old X-Wing/TIE Fighter games. :)

I know it's something supposedly minor but am I the only one who is very disappointed at how bland the new Imperial, ahem, First Order vehicles look like?

The TIE/fo in particular (it's been practically confirmed that's the official name based on the X-Wing board game and Bandai's upcoming scale model), it's just a normal TIE-Fighter with some very minor detail alteration and negative colour scheme! White radiator/solar panels and black hull! ... Meh.

Some aircraft & spacecraft designs don't change very much over time. And the TIE is probably hard to improve on.

In the real world, B-52's are still flying, and Russia's still launching Soyuz space capsules.

I don't mind the design itself (in fact, I love TIEs) and you make a fair point.

What bothers me is that essentially they discarded the evolutionary path already established in RotJ with the TIE Interceptor and just went with a new paint job. One that also really screams "it's a toy!" to me.

I doubt we'll see any explanation as to why TIE Interceptors are missing in the movie. The real-life marketing taking precedence over continuity is already frustrating me with the Interceptor's exlcusion (among other things).

I've made up my own head-canon that the factories and plans for the TIE Interceptor were destroyed by the Rebels during the 30+ years between episodes.

We never saw Vader's TIE again either.

There are plenty of plausible reasons the interceptors were abandoned if they were introduced shorty before the events of ROTJ. The entire production run may have been lost over Endor.

There's one in ROTJ, if you know where to look. ;)

Apparently there are conflicting rumors regarding the next trailer.

A theater in Vancouver says it's dropping October 19th, also when tickets supposedly go on sale.

The other rumor claims we're not seeing it until November but that it is already done and being looked at by the people at corporate, along with some tv spots.

Disney's also going to want to start promoting Captain America: Civil War soon as well. They're gonna be keeping those trailer dates as far away from each other as they can.

There's also a rumor that John Williams recently recorded music for the new trailer.  I'd be surprised if they debuted the trailer in November.  That seems rather late.

Bob Iger has apparently mentioned in some kind of mass Skype with a college class that there will be no Disney logo before the film, for whatever that's worth.

There was a Touchstone Pictures logo in front of Strange Magic, followed by the current Lucasfilm logo.

Hopefully, Williams composed a new fanfare as opposed to what graced the digital releases of the existing films.

Never was Disney logo or castle in front of the Disney Marvel movies. I didn't expect there would be with SW either.

This is my hope as well. I still don't get how they got it so catastrophically wrong.

It's a shame that my "fixed" version you posted on the twitter didn't get many shares. A lot of people I spoke to didn't hear anything wrong with the original, which I found extra depressing.

I know there was no way in hell we were ever going to get the Fox fanfare in front of TFA, but it's still too bad the opening of the film will be missing that certain something.

It wouldn't surprise me if the next official alteration to 1-6 simply removes the Fox logo and fanfare entirely, including from ANH.

If TFA is simply opening with the Lucasfilm logo, I think it would be better to just not hear anything before the main theme. I'm surprised that isn't what they did for the digital release of 1-6.

Unless Fox let's go of the distribution rights for ANH, the Fox fanfare will likely stay right where it belongs.

Definitely. It would be jarring to have some kind of theme just for that quick logo, as it needs to be silent for the next card.

I solemnly predict that TFA will very likely be amusing, awful, and artificial.
