How about a game of Japanese Chess, i.e. Shogi? Now playing Shogi4 — Page 108

Well, my laptop is pretty much dead, but I found myself a new computer.

Give me a little time to install some Shogi software, and I'll be able to make my move (hopefully tonight).

Sorry for not responding.  This stupid program irritates me.  I had to restart my computer, and though I saved the game, it didn't save any progress.  It's messed up my game before.  I just haven't had the chance to play the game to where we were.  I know it's not far, but I just have been tied up the past few days and lacking in motivation to get it up to speed.  I'll fix it tomorrow and get to playing again.

Well, I know what that's like. I started saving after every move because my computer was crashing daily at one point.

But the thing is, I saved it in anticipation of the restart, and it still sent me back to the beginning.  Once before this software made a mistake, where I realized that the board was slightly different than when I had saved it.  It was a position we never had even played to.  The difference was slight but significant.

Anyway, sorry it took so long for me to get this straightened out.  It's not like we were even far into the game.  I do really like playing and just have been busy.  I will make my move now.

Weird. I thought the same thing had happened to me for a moment, then I realized I had anticipated the next few moves.

Sorry for taking so long to reply yet again.  Another restart, this time without me expecting it.  That's one thing I hate about these newer versions of Windows: they restart all the time for updates, and if you're away when it's doing the countdown, too bad, so sad.  I downloaded some new software and again played to where we were.  Now I wonder if you really wish to keep that move because my gold general can capture your rook.  Wanna take it back?

Oops! I had been moving your silver general the whole time, and didn't realize it was the wrong piece. I probably wouldn't have made the last two or three moves had I notice that, but I'll only take back the last one, since I didn't really lose anything making the other ones.

There should be a way to turn off whatever setting reboots your computer automatically. I've never experienced that with Windows 7 (if that's what you have), or Windows 10.

Really?  It seems every now and then on three different computers all using Windows 7 or newer that every now and then I will get a warning to save my work or postpone a countdown or else the computer will restart.  Sometimes I am away when the countdown starts, and when I return, updates are taking place or the machine is asking for my password :(

Anyway, if you want to take back more, that's alright, but if not, we'll proceed as you suggest.

Wow, you just made my job a lot easier.

I almost feel like letting you take that back, but if you play it right, you should be able to at least trap my rook, if not take it. I'll give you some credit, though, and assume that I'm missing something even though I can't say what....

No, don't give me any credit.  I was just playing in a hurry and being an idiot.  I'll play it out and see how it goes, though.

I'll be out of town for Thanksgiving, so I probably won't be able to move again till Monday.
