Yeah, that's, uh... perfect, really.

Although the purple skin tones of the Blu-ray do have the unintended effect of making the choking look more severe.  But then Vader would have to be choking everyone at all times, maybe some sort of galaxy-wide force-choke...

In comparison, I kinda prefer the coolness of the Stormtroop armor in that publicity shot.

The video sample is being processed, and the frames are looking awesome. Very 1970s and film like. It will take a while, but it should be up by tomorrow...

This is just oozing with the '70s I love it.

Very nice Color Match. Cannot wait too see it in motion.

Lets see if my brain remembers 1977.

Saw this movie back in 77 in Dolby  =)

I actually do like the green shift on the prints.  Though I acknowledge that it may not have been entirely intentional.  Regardless, this is looking good . . .

Not sure if it's my monitor or just my personal preference, but I really don't understand why did you remove the greens. Your changes make it look like a faded print and that's not a good thing IMHO

Well, because the evidence seems to show the greens should not be there. The Senator print, and photographic evidence show that for this sequence the panels are a beige color. According to piota, many Technicolor IB prints had an unintended green shift. The colors are what they are, but they're certainly not faded.

Wow - I had no idea they were beige. This certainly brings a whole different perspective to the colours.

They actually do have a very slight mint tint, I've seen some of the panels in person, and although faint, it is there.

However the green skintones on the IB Techs are a result of the shitty state of the Technicolor facility by the mid 70s. The tech prints are great because they haven't faded, but the colour isn't quite right on them, it should be a little less green.

Weird, I always thought those pictures looked greenish too, but if you think they don't...

I know the Senator print had color differences from the IB print(s) the reference stills come from - the shots in the light saber duel of Ben and Vader in front of the big doorway looking out toward the Falcon had an overpowering blue tint, but there is a picture of the same scene from the Senator and the colors looked more "normal".

This is most likely due to the automatic white balance on the camera taking the photos of the screen.

The more I look at it, the more I like your result from post 283 better.

What do you think poita? Which is more accurate? Both have a hint of mint, but the first is definitely more green than the second. The second was used to make the video sample.

The problem is your troopers are also headed to beige, and Darth is browning up.

I'm not at my colourist panel, so this is a very dodgy example, but is closer to the look.

The top is your beige troopers and set, below is closer to how it looks.

DrDre, are you planning to apply this color matching algorithm to your superresolution GOUT upscale?

I think I agree with you. The above version better matches the below reference.

I think this correction is a bit too desaturated. I would go with this one:

What about this?

Senator screening:

Bluray matched to senator screening:

The colors are great, but very blown out.

Your sample looks even more blown out than the Senator sample (which I think is already too blown out for my tastes--if in doubt I'd opt to err in favor of less blown out).  Look through the doorframe at the detail of a second doorframe over the rebels' heads, or the shoulder of the closest stormtrooper.

EDIT: but the colors are nice, if that's all you wanted feedback on ;)

Oke, this one's perfect IMO, the amazing Senator screening colors, but without the blown out highlights.

And here are the other two frames.

I will update the video sample, based on this color correction model.

Depends on the goal at this point.  If it's to match the Senator, it's still a touch too green to my eyes.

But if it's to try to counteract some of the known color bias in the Technicolor prints, then it could be made even less green (you can still leave it with a touch of mint).  IMO for similar reasons you could restrain the clipping a bit more too, but I know that's my particular peeve.
