More OUT Rerelease Rumors from John Landis! — Page 4

Seems a little short sighted for EOD to have been shot in standard def in 2004.

As I understand it, the doc WAS shot in HD... but it was only mastered and finalized in SD, since it was - at that time - only supposed to appear on DVD. That's why Lucasfilm provided them only with SD footage of the unaltered trilogy. Now they are going back to the doc, mastering it in HD, but apparently have to upres the clips from the OUT.

Why does it even surprise me any more when they do stuff this way? ;)

So I just heard about this John Landis quote late yesterday afternoon. Naturally it was after a weekend where my internet access was rather limited.

It's great to hear something on the subject from an actual reliable source, but as pointed out he never actually specifies the original versions.

We'll see....

To paraphase, "I'll believe it when I actually read a press release."

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

Mistakes happen, and a most unfortunate mistake it was.

That is, I can say without fear of exagerration, the most euphemistic description imaginable for gross criminal negligence resulting in the decapitation of a respected actor and two small children.

But that does not make John Landis "not" a nice person.

Very true. Even the most grossly criminally negligent manslaughterer can be pleasant and personable.

And, in light of the topic of this thread, here's hoping he's also right about the OOT, in addition to being a grossly criminally negligent manslaughterer.

From the sounds of him in the video and given the context of the quote I would say that he definitely thinks that the original versions specifically are being released. Whether or not he's right is a different story.

Please keep on topic. This is not the shoot the messenger thread.

If you feel compelled to discuss Mr. Landis and The Twilight Zone accident, take it to off topic. Thank you.

Wow, nevermind, I just watched the youtube video and he actually says "the way it was," meaning the original version.

I'm guessing that gap in the recording is when he said GL told him personally. One of the other panel guys is joking about a "seven second delay" so maybe they really seriously didn't want it out there.

So then the only doubt would be if George actually meant the original versions when he told this to Landis, but I don't see why he would mention this - at some random panel somewhere for AAWWIL of all places - if he wasn't absolutely sure.

I'm kind of surprised Lucas, of all people, would be the one to say this to anyone.

How does Lucas know what Disney's plans are?  As far as I know, Disney doesn't need Lucas's approval for anything and I doubt Disney would discuss their future Star Wars plans with him.  I mean, Abrams and Kasdan reportedly didn't even use Lucas's treatment for TFA.  Disney didn't spend $4.2 billion to have Lucas approve their plans and actions and Lucas didn't sell it for the same reasons, either.

In any case, doesn't Fox still hold the distribution rights?

I would guess someone at Lucasfilm keeps him in the loop.

From the sounds of what Landis said, maybe they've debated  on the SEs in the past and George thought he'd tell him that they're finally releasing the OOT when he saw him. I also would imagine that Lucas is fairly in the loop, or at least is given information when he asks. I doubt he has any authority over anything though

[snip] The 04/11 SE's are limited to 2K, so going back to the 97SE's, doing a 4K scan, and re-specializing is the only way to keep the SE fork alive at all for higher-res releases (and, given that complicated history, it won't be an exact match to the 2011SE even if that's their intended goal).

It's even more complicated than taking the DeLorean up to 88 miles per hour and going back to 1955 to prevent Biff from giving his younger self the Gray's Sports Almanac, without running into your other self. Too bad this still won't repair this awful, awful, awful alternate 1985.

If your crop is water, what, exactly, would you dust your crops with?

It will repair this awful, awful, awful mainline 2015, though, right?

I'd like to think this is real... To the doubters:

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

I wish I can unsee An American Werewolf in London.. so I can see it again for the first time.

One of those rare films which is funny, tender and genuinely frightening, probably Landis at his best.

The first VHS tape I ever bought.

Ass Windex?

Well, they say the eyes are the window to the soul.   So it seems there is no other logical explanation than that Mace's ass is an eye, which is a window to . . . well, something.  (The soul of the Force?)  Presumably not a very clean window if it needs Windex to be able to see into it.

I challenge anyone to try to disprove this, because you know you can't.  Yeah, I said it.

Well, carrots are good for your eyes, and since orange is pretty much the opposite of purple, your logic holds. Flawless.

PSA: Please keep in mind he's referring exclusively to Mace's ass, because ouch ammonia.  Fool me once, hairy_hen...

I met John Landis, He's a nice guy. I wen't to a screening of American Werewolf in London where he was releasing / signing his new book. "Monsters in the Movies"

I don't think it's something he would make up, so he knows something, and has shared it and he's obviously excited about it too.

A Very Warm person is John Landis.

While I would never call Landis a "nice guy" (especially after the Twilight Zone incident) but I really hope he's correct.

Same here. I really like his films but I can't get over what happened on that set. They really shouldn't have even made that movie to be honest.
