I am repeating my original post -

Does anyone Have Half Blood Prince on Full Screen, or the open matte HDTV broadcast.

Here's the dvd link -

http://www.amazon.com/Potter-Half-Blood-Prince-Single-Disc-Screen/dp/B002PMV9K6/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1442523699&sr=1-1&keywords=Half+Blood+Prince+Full+Screen

I distinctly recall viewing that release at one point, and I remember it being like the HDTV broadcast but with the sides shaved off to 4:3. I think some of the FX shots were noticeably pan and scanned from the 2:35:1 version, as even SFX for Super 35 format films are usually done in the intended theatrical ratio so blow ups don't look like shit.

I don't think so. Effects for all Harry Potter movies were done in 1.78:1 hard matte. I've seen the HDTV versions of HP 1, 2, 4 and 8 open-matte. Though 3 was P&S, despite an early open matte trailer clearly revealing that the VFX was matted at 1.78:1. I do not know whether HP 5, 6 and 7 are open matte or not, but 8 is, in majority of the movie, especially in the VFX shots. This is because they were shot on standard 35mm and Super 35mm, and never with anamorphic lenses.

Yeah, a lot of Super 35 material like True Lies and Spider Man 2 have all SFX shots done in the negative ratio shot at (be it academy or 1.66) as opposed to being hard matted to the theatrical (2.35) ratio. I know the FF versions of HP 1-2 are full 4:3 and I believe the SFX shots are too (I recall there being minimal cropping throughout when viewed alongside the scope version), while 4-7 are essentially the 1:78.1 framing side cropped to 4:3. 4:3 and HDTV versions of HP3 were cropped because while that one of course was shot S35 at 1.78, I believe WB used the matted theatrical print for all transfers because they were lazy or were on a mad rush to get out the DVDs ASAP.

Can anyone here confirm whether the itunes version of Deathly Hallows Part 2 is open matte 1.78:1 or 2.40:1? Or if anyone has the UMD PSP video of HP DH 2.

I don't know about the 1.78 versions of Deathly Hollows Part II (may be cropped or so I hear), but I recall the ITunes HD version being OAR. Ditto on the PSP because I've never had one, but I would assume it is OAR unless the studios decided to crop later UMD titles to fill the PSP's small-as-fuck screen.

I know for sure that the HBO and WB 1.78:1 versions are open matte for the VFX shots and panned for some live action shots. But it's mostly open matte as I have seen the whole movie on those cable channels. Which means the Open matte version must exist somewhere. This is why I thought that either the itunes version and/or the UMD PSP version also being open matte. I recently downloaded The Order of the Phoenix UMD PSP. And its 2.40:1. Are you sure the itunes is not in 1.78:1. If itunes is in 16:9 without letterboxing then its the open matte version as I'm sure they wouldn't be making two 1.78:1 versions. Please confirm me this. For I am desperate to get the open matte version of Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Is it possible for anyone to rip it from cable as a lot of DTH set tops allow recording and that's how the 3 HP movies ended up open matte on torrent websites. If anyone can rip it it'll be great as the open matte looks fantastic, like IMAX. The dragon's freedom moments and the final battle are all open-matte and look massive with the additional height. I have SD cable and no recording ability, otherwise I'd have done it myself. Trust me guys, it's worth having that version.
Please, if anyone has the recording ability and catches DH Part 2 on full 16:9 in cable, know for sure it's the open matte, as that's the only version distributed to cable tv companies.

It was uploaded on bithq.org just a few weeks ago.

Also, it's not exactly open matte. For most of the movie, it loses a lot of image from the sides. Just gains some info on the top and bottom. If you crop a 16:9 image to 16:10 on VLC player, that's the amount of info cropped from the sides in the Full Screen dvd. Plus the old crt TVs will crop an additional 10-15% image from the sides due to overscan.

There's been a resurgence of this old, allegedly fullscreen DVD release of the Toho cut of Godzilla 2000: Millennium on eBay recently. I should be getting one of these in the mail sooner or later. If the color timing is anything different from the R2 or the '08 HD version, I'll share my findings.

There's also a Polish PAL DVD of the Mike Schlesinger cut out there that uses the same transfer as the U.S. VHS release with a redone TV safe title card. I also need to track down a better source for the screener master of the U.S. theatrical version.

I know I have a fullscreen vhs version and the US DVD release.  The colors on the vhs are a bit washed out to me.  I also have a Japan DVD release.

The Korean DVD is a totally unique transfer. Very vibrant for a release of the Japanese assembly, and there are amusing Engrish subtitles.

Thanks to Spaced I now know I have the Korean DVD of this and not the Japanese one.  Sorry folks.

It's a video master of a release print that's notable for having the theatrical end title. It was used for a screener, and two official Spanish VHS releases (one is dubbed, the other subtitled).

So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

The first laserdisc issue of Paul Verhoeven's "Total Recall" was open matte, reportedly at the director's request. The original R1 DVD release contains a full frame version.

...

Do you have a link to the edition? I have the Full Frame Image LD, but that seems to be just matted 1.33:1 :(

I would like to see a longer list. I think there are cropped/p&s, partial (partially open matte, possibly zoomed, and lots cropped), and open-matte presentations. FX shots may be an exception and many already mentioned are excluded.

The screener master would be nice to have in full. I may search out a copy.

After being bitterly disappointed with the widescreen version of Top Gun (20th anniversary remaster), I went and bought the first DVD version that has both widescreen and ‘fullscreen’ (open matte). The VHS open matte version is the version I grew up on, and it’s the only way I will watch it. SD quality be damned. Same goes for Terminator 2.

There’s actually a blooper visible on the 1994 VHS of Willy Wonka. When Charlie and his family are watching the announcement of the Wonka contest on the TV, when it cuts to the shot of Charlie asking Grandpa Joe if he thinks he could find a ticket, the TV is off. This is cropped out in WS and even some P&S releases. I have the 2001 P&S DVD and the TV is cropped out in this shot.
