Is 2.5 the ultimate version, or are there far off plans on upgrading it further? Say, an upgrade to 1080p way down the line?
It's as good as it can get with current available sources. Harmy's said that if he ever does another edition, it'll be based on 35mm sources. But that's a long time from now
What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.
Is this an animation error? I was watching the 2.5 of Star Wars, and when they're walking into the Cantina, the nostril(?) on the creature outside the door doesn't seem to move along with his head. I only noticed this because it was one of the scenes Harmy included as an example where he had to do some stuff by hand in his "trailer" for the despecialized editions. Here's a recording that I took

Hmm. I don't really see what you're saying. It's kind of hard to tell with the people walking right in front of it, though. Not sure why the head would be made into separate elements, but one of the complaints people had about the 1.0 was that the head was a bit too disconnected and floaty. So maybe if it's still hand-animated, it's an attempt to give the snout more dimension.
edit: I can't tell if it moves perfectly with the head, but the nostril certainly moves a good deal.
What I'm trying to point out is that black line on the front of the creature's head. It's either a nostril or an eye-slit or something. at 0:02 just before the guy in the beige shirt walks in front of it, the creature raises its head. However, the slit stays at the same point on the screen, instead of moving up with the rest of the head. Do you see what I'm trying to say?
I see the feature you're talking about. But it is moving up with the head. You can leave your cursor on the point where it starts and see that. I'm not sure if it's moving perfectly, but it seems to be staying the same distance from the center of the nose. But the dimensions of its head change because it is looking down first, and then leveling its head.
I don't think you're right. I took another video, this time from an earlier time mark, and you can see that the same problem happens when the creature lowers its head as well. I really don't think this can be attributed to just angles. It looks like it's moving across the head. (youtube's compression makes it harder to see than I'd like, so to see for yourself, the timestamp is 43:50 If you look closely, you can see the texture sliding.)

Does anyone else see it or am I just completely crazy?
I think I see it; it's very subtle, but it's there.
Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.
I think the you may be right that the movement of the nostril is not 100% with the movement of the rest of the head, but it does not stay in place entirely. It generally moves with the head. It's hard for me to tell, especially in the two frames between people walking by.
My point about it being due to the beast leveling its head is not to say that you're wrong. Just that I believe Harmy hand animated this movement, and it's not a case of each individual frame being from the 35mm (IIRC). So in order to change the perspective of the head, he may have had to separate it into segments.
I just thought it was something that Harmy should keep in mind if he ever makes a 2.6/whatever it ends up being called. If this is the only thing that needs fixing then great, but I have no idea what he has planned for the first movie at this point.
For better or for worse the game/movie site Polygon just published a story on the despecialized editions.

Search YouTube and include the phrase "how to" etc. There "might" be a couple videos explaining the process. . .
Best of luck!
Cheers

Hello! I'm brand new to this, though I've read through the forums a LOT (just joined today). So I've found the uloz.to stuff, but can anyone else help me figure out what to do with it after I download it? I admit to being very very n00b at this.
Thanks to anyone in advance and have a wonderful week.
*sigh* I wish the thread didn't get bombarded with people asking questions that could be answered by a google search every time someone writes an article about despecialized.
But hey, we're getting new customers, right?
