Wow, I thought it was admirable they were keeping the novelization back until the movie was out, but the soundtrack even! I can't help but think it's mostly in vain with stuff like TFA Monopoly being released today. Still, it's a little less to try and avoid.

I sort of agree (what with the toys and Lego sets especially) but I took a look at the back cover of that Monopoly and it looks more like saga Monopoly with TFA branding and figurines - nothing even close to spoilers.

For the most part it does seem like they're keeping plot stuff under wraps and even though it seems like we're getting a lot if you take a good look (which I admittedly am trying not to do) it doesn't seem like much has been revealed at all. I sort of wonder if the teasers even show anything from the second half of the film.

Of course, were months away, and there's still another trailer and even more merchandizing to look forward to (they made a point not to put out toys featuring the OT three - don't think they're not going to want those out in time for Christmas, along with variations of the new three [someone's getting a lightsaber]). But the soundtrack is a little bit different, I feel, not just because of potentially revealing track names, but also the music itself will be a big part of the experience of the film. An obvious but good call to wait until the film's release.

I'm steering clear of the spoiler thread from now on, so I thought I'd post this here.

Does anyone else think all this promo art looks appalling. It's Disney, so much money involved and yet the dreadful photoshoped posters that have been released for the toys etc just look really amateurish. It's school level photoshop skills going on here.

Also, the colours and the soft look of everything is reminding me of TPM. What's happened? Where's the quality? Getting a job in design is supposed to be difficult...

Less than stellar photoshop stuff is always used to market toys. But if you look at some of the art that's being used for t shirts and other clothing there's actually  really nice promo art out there.

On BBC5Live Radio today they said France is getting the film first (By a day), which makes a change. They often get Hollywood films late don't they? They played the audio from this trailer...

...it sounds great in French... like sexy Star Wars! LOL

December 15 in both France and Italy.

You know, TFA was originally scheduled for January 2016 in Italy: they say it was because theaters were more prone to screen Zalone's new film in December (apparently his last comedies were box-office or something). Star Wars fans complained to Disney, to the theaters and some to Zalone himself! :D In the end, Zalone's film's screening was delayed to January, and now we got TFA scheduled for December.

Leo Ortolani (Italian cartoonist) also made a special strip about it (rough translation...):

(ding dong!)

SOMEONE: Checco, would you mind?

ZALONE: Who is it this late?

ZALONE: Oy, what if I told you I got 35,486 emails just this evening? (Ah! Ah! Cool!)

My roommate bought the iPhone controlled BB8. It's amazing. Top ten inventions of all time.

Best part is I didn't even have to pay for it.

I guess they're trying to keep the original trilogy cast under wraps until the release, but Chewie seems to be everywhere as far as T-shirts and Toys go, is this an indication of his prominence in the movie?

Possibly just indication that he has aged better. Though you wouldn't guess it based on the internet's overreaction to the direction that the fur around his eyes is combed or whatever the "problem" was.

Yes!! I'll get to watch the film before all of you!

Definitely a change from episode 1 where it came out the following October. Ahhhh. The wait was painful (as was the final product)

Typical 21st century release strategy -- put a blockbuster movie out several days ahead of time in Europe to maximize box office receipts for opening weekend. Make the sales numbers look good, as fast as possible, because these days films are only in theaters Stateside for around a week.

Meanwhile, American SW fans like me have to stay off the Internet for a few days if they want to avoid being spoiled blind before they can even see it in theaters.

New movies comes out traditionally on a Wednesday in France. I think it's the simple reason why TFA is out two days earlier here.

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

And people say there are no French victories.

Of course, if TFA sucks, then I guess French audiences won't be winners after all.

What Zero said: new releases happen on Wednesdays, not Fridays like in the States.

Welcome to how the other half live ;-)

According to various places the UAE are getting it first on the 15th. Then there are 3 other clusters: France/Bahrain/Philippines etc on the 16th, the UK/Hong Kong/Mexico on the 17th and the US is amongst the last batch on the 18th (Apart from 4 countries who have to wait more than a month: Greece, Morocco, Egypt, China).

Not sure about movies, but as far as I know it's quite the contrary: it's usually Europe the one getting most of the stuff AFTER America :D

I wonder why there was such a long delay. AotC was released in France around the same time as here if I'm remembering correctly.

Like I mentioned in the spoiler thread, I was in Paris visiting my sister the week JJ's Star Trek was released in France and Belgium two days before anywhere else in the world. So we got to see it a little early with very small and non-distracting French subtitles.

 I stand corrected.

As far as to why they waited until October... God knows. Maybe they were trying to emulate the release schedule of the original film? I just know it was a giant mistake because that film was highly pirated.

I wonder if Chewbacca and R2 are finally getting some new lines, or just recycled ones, as in everything that has been released since Return of the Jedi.
