okay i have a small rant here...
that im sure many will agree with..

is anyone getting pissed off with the constant delay of certain DVD releases..
Ed Wood come to mind?

im not sure if this is a similar senario but correct me if im wrong please..

i went to 5 different DVD chains today to pick up both "The Exporers" as well as the new version of "Born on the 4th of July" and they all said they've never heard of them...

now either a) internet sources have their dates wrong b) the DVD has been pulled back to a later date or c) maybe the date is just different for Canada

but i always thought that Region 1 DVD's are all released on the same day....

so if anyone can provide me with some information on where the hell these two DVDs are i would greatly appreciate it...

this happened with my Ed Wood (like 3 times already) and with the Dazed and Confused Flashback Edition...
ArG!!

any info would be appreciated

I thought Dazed was 11/5. That's the only date I've heard for it. However, I am pretty ticked about Ed Wood. That one's taking forever. And I haven't heard any real plausible explanations as to why it's happening.

Born on the 4th is still on pre-order at Amazon. Generally they have the standardized release dates. Also, all new movies and cds are released on Tuesdays (in the US) im not sure about Canada.

Chains really suck when it comes to catalogue titles. I'm STILL trying to hunt down a copy of Under the Cherry Moon.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Should I get the Criterion "The Rock"....or, Criterion "Armageddon"?

Only if you actually like the movies and want all those Criterion extras. The transfer's not so hot though.

Personally I can't stand those movies anyway (or anything by Michael Bay, except for maybe Bad Boys, its a guilty pleasure).

haha, yeah. I too like Bad Boys. When it comes to Michael Bay, I enjoy his movies in sort of a 'tongue and cheek' way (that's if I don't get an epileptic seizure from his fast editing). They're good for drinkin' and not payin' attention, if you catch my drift. Anyway, although I prefer Armageddon, they say the Rock has the superior transfer. Also, Armageddon has additional scenes added into the cut, and I don't know about that (the movie's already too long). Just wondering if anybody had any thoughts, comments, derogatory remarks, ect?

I have the Criterion version of "The Rock" I cant compare the transfer to the non-criterion cause i dont have, nor have i seen it. But the disc does have some nice extras...a documentary or two on the actual Alcatraz that was pretty interesting as I remember. If your def gonna get the movie on dvd though, id say go for the criterion version. Cant comment on Armageddon.

The Rock is the better transfer because it's anamorphic while Armageddon is not. Here's a review comparing three different versions of Armageddon on DVD.

And here are DVD File's reviews for Armageddon and DVD Times review of The Rock. Basically The Rock looks best, but Armageddon has better extras, so there's no definite win-win choice. Of course as I said before, both movies are terrible so it's really lose-lose either way . Hope that helps...

Hey Luke, I dont know if you saw it or not but the SE of Ed Wood is available (at least it is on amazon). I had almost forgotten about it until today, but apparently its been available since late Oct. right along with the SE of Born on the 4th.
Both of those just were added to my wish list. Hopefully when I go back to work full time for the Christmas/New Year's break I will save enough money to be able to get back to increasing my DVD collection.

Lately ive had to ration my purchases, Ive been getting like one or two a month. But since its Christmas season I think personal spending will be slowing down. At any rate, just thought id let you know if you hadnt already seen it.

Now Im REALLY looking forward to Garden State and the eventual I <3 Huckabees.

But honestly, all my movie anticipation right now is not focused on DVD, but rather, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou!!!

I'm with you on most of that post, Lethe. Is there a release date on Garden State now? And Life Aquatic looks great.

Not yet. Saving my pennies for the deluxe version with the Hellboy bust.

I caved in and bought my first Harry Potter movie today. But it was worth it, I loved this film in the theatre and it will make a great gift for my little cousins.

If they get their own though I'll probably keep it as Cuaron did an outstanding job. Not only is it an excellent film in own right (the first two were just 'meh'), but one of the best of the year.

Chris Columbus did a great job with his participation in the casting of the first two films. He captured my mental image of all the characters perfectly. However, not until Cuaron came around were the mood and setting captured perfectly as well. Prisoner is my fave of the bunch. I bought it yesterday, too. In addition to the two Seinfeld sets, U2's new album, and ONXRT Live From the Archives Vol. 7 (Chicago radio station live compilation). Expensive day.
