My chiptune covers

I've been making these for a while now, but kept them all to myself. Mostly because they're all unfinished.

Figured I'd share some of them.

"Rogue Squadron 3d" by Chris Huelsbeck

This is a work in progress cover of the "Rogue Squadron 3d" theme music, as already seen here:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Random-Thoughts/post/786083/#TopicPost786083

It uses the VRC6.

"Enjoy the silence" by Depeche Mode

This is just a doodle on one of my all-time favorite songs. NES 2A03 channels only.

Nice! Share more. :)

I've been a fan of Factor 5 since their Rainbow Arts days when they programmed games for the Amiga, such as Turrican and R-Type.

Thanks!

Factor 5's work really is historical. Played the first level of Turrican once, on a C64 emulator, I was really impressed.

Here is another small cover, this time it's "State of the nation" by Industry.

This one also uses just the 2A03.

Cool! :)

How long have you been a musician and what kinds of gear do you have?

If you ever get the chance, play the Amiga version. It's phenomenal! Speaking of the C64 (my first computer), I loved the SID chip and I've always paid close attention to the specs of the sound chips in the computers and consoles that I've owned over the years.

I don't really consider myself a musician, I have a modern Casio keyboard (CTK-481) and a Les Paul replica, both of which I play at a really basic level. I'm clumsy and I lack practice. I don't even have an amp for my guitar.

The SID chip is amazing, never fails to impress me.

There are VG covers with lyrics?  Sounds dreadful.

Good day dear sir, I'm here to talk to you about our Bard and Xavier Brentalfloss. He hath brought onto us many parody covers, and made them awesome and funny. Please take five minutes of your time to accept him into your heart:

Thank you. I've started working on another cover, will share something soon. More 80's synthpop!

Meanwhile, since you mentioned Turrican, British Youtuber Mentski is playing it live at this very moment:

Thanks for the heads up, watching! :)

Edit... Ok, watched some of it but couldn't take his complaining about the level design for that long. The problem isn't the level, he's just not good at playing Turrican and paying attention to details... I'm amazed that he even needed a cheat mode, I was able to blitz through all the levels reach The Machine with stacks of lives left over.

I was tuning in and out cause I had multiple tabs open, but yeah I heard him moan about confusing level design. It was funny at the end though, when the "multiple lives" cheat he had put in earlier backfired on him. The game couldn't countdown his lives, so the scoreboard kept counting up to its maximum and resetting to zero, over and over again. So no end cutscene for him, the game could not end properly. LOL

Here's another cover I just started working on, two days ago:

"Blue Monday" by New Order

http://tindeck.com/listen/vcgff

six more minutes to go on this one  LOL

a lot of careful selection has gone into the various sounds. I've had to resort to using the actual samples from the song for the drum portion, because it just didn't sound right to me, without them.

New Order! :D

Good job.

Thank you, though the hard part is yet to come. I'm doing the math in my head, and I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to sequence the next section, note for note, using just the 2A03 channels. I'll have to use arpeggios galore to cram notes in, I'm already pushing it with that strange "clash" effect.

A lot of people go for Blue Monday but I always preferred True Faith:

I have to be honest, having been born at the tail end of the 80s, "Blue Monday" is the only New Order track I've been exposed to, thanks to compilation CDs and the like. It's one of my favorite songs of all time.

I'll have to learn more about them, you just reminded me I still haven't listened to the rest of their discography. Maybe I'll sequece "True Faith" in the near future, once I'm done with the current projects.

I almost forgot, Frink, I signed up yesterday on The Shizz but my account is still waiting for validation. Does it usually take that long?

Depends.  I'll PM raub and see if he can speed it up.

Track down Substance and go from there.  It includes Blue Monday, True Faith, Bizarre Love Triangle, on and on.  A fantastic album.

Thanks, no rush obviously, I was just wondering if there was an error on my end.
