 Wouldn't the 3D version have to be cropped a little bit, to compensate for the 3D effect? One eye is going to see a little more to the left, the other a little more to the right (depending on the amount of stereo separation)...and especially if you watch it in 2D, they'll only show one of the "eyes".

 I think they overdid it as the crop percentage was not uniform, and neither did they adjust the framing for compensating the crop. There are many post converted movies that do not lose as much image as JP 3D has. Think of the 2.35:1 frame of Titanic 3D. Its not as wide as the original framing, but the crop is quite negligible compared to JP.
