Oh, you are in contact with the guy who did the original stuff? I agree that he should indeed get the credit he deserves, and I'll give you my name.

Well as we were supposed to learn to translate English to French, we were always told that translators only translate stuff into their native language (in my case the French). Which is indeed better, but I think it's also important to be able to translate towards another language (at least a little bit).

Yes indeed.  The website where he posted his original rules had each piece move and capture exactly the same way.  But on the site, he notes that he was working on advanced rules, but he hadn't posted them.  I emailed him requesting them, and he sent them to me in French and said he would post them when translated to English.  I offered to try, but as I said before, I ended up giving up.  This was in 2007, so it's really fortunate that you are doing this, as I don't even know how much interest he still has int he project.  But I feel the advanced rules probably better represent how the game might have been with unique abilities, and they surely make a more interesting and complex game, so I'm glad to finally see this come to fruition.

So Bewy did his work super quick and had his translation done in no time.  However, I had to do the easy job of simply making adjustments to make the translation to English more accurate...and I took a very long time.  But I finally finished my task, and Bewy incorporated it into a pdf, and so here we finally have the rules to Dejarik in English!

Seriously, Bewy did an amazing job and I am so thankful for his work and patience with me.  Many thanks to him!

The inventor of these rules states that he hasn't tried out the advanced rules much, so if anyone else gives it a try and finds problems, he said he was open to suggestions.

Maybe it's my browser, or maybe I'm just being stupid, but is there a way to make it bigger? I can understand a fair bit of it, but to read it, I have to translate the page (with a webpage translator) and hover over the teeny-tiny text to read the French. :P

I'm guessing this is no longer a problem. ;-)
