I like your thinking. But to my mind, even worse is the missed opportunity of not giving all the Jedi blue lightsabers in the PT. That way, Luke's green saber in ROTJ would have been symbolic of his independence of mind - instead of just "oh, I had a blue saber before, I think I'll get a green one this time."
