Bah.  Come on, we all know that Kyle Katarn stole the plans for the Death Star back in Dark Forces.

those airtubes which don't seem to serve any purpose

TIE Fighter pilots in the OOT also have airtubes.

The difference being that those airtubes are connected to an airtight spacesuit instead of to...the side of his face? Does he have little auxiliary mouths on either side of his main mouth for air? Is he an aquatic creature with gills? It could work I guess, it just seems kind of awkward.

But Duracell was asking what the purpose of the tubes is, not how Cad inserted them into his face.

Well, of course I know what the purpose of the tubes is supposed to be. However, I don't see how they can work -- ie. serve a purpose -- when they're running into his cheeks. Duros don't have any apparent nostrils/gills on the side of their faces, so it just looks they were placed there to make the character "look cool" without any thought put into their function.

Leia and Vader have a short encounter on some small planet in the Radio Drama where she's on a mercy mission to an Imperial-controlled planet that she narrowly escapes.

The planet is Ralltiir, where she receives the stolen plans.  They're brought to her by a soldier wounded in a diversionary attack.  She smuggles the soldier into her personal speeder to rescue him.

Vader confronts her before she's able to raise ship and forces her and the Tantive captain Antilles to stay there and await a search party.  She escapes the planet by convincing one of Vader's superior officers that his wishes of detaining her would upset her father.  Even though that officer agrees with Vader,   he  prefers gaining favor with her more than upsetting her and her father. He allows her to leave.

To me, it's one of the better parts of the NPR drama because it's all expanded from the movie. This is still back when Vader was a guy in the Empire military, not some universe-controlling all powerful embodiment of evil.  He's very much who he was in 1977.

In this portion of the NPR version, he's disrespectful and mean to her, but he still answers to other officers so he doesn't really have the authority to make her stay or to search her ship.

It would be nice if they showed some of this in Rogue One. It would also be a perfect way to end the film and give them a Vader and Leia cameo scene tying this into the first film.

-----edit-----

I should mention that this part of the story does not lead directly to the opening of the first film.  Leia goes back to Alderaan for a short while.  She spends some time alone contemplating joining the rebellion in earnest after being more of a supporter\sympathizer.  The Empire's brutality on Ralltiir bothers her a great deal.

While at home she and her father also host a dinner for the officer who allowed her to leave Ralltiir.  By the end of the evening, she and her father are all-in on joining the rebellion and that eventually leads to the opening of the first film.  If I had to guess, the Ralltiir and Alderaan parts of the story probably happen just a few days or so before the start of the first film.

I'd love if the general who chats with Vader on the Tantive is the main villain of this. He seems to be in command of the 501st, who can actually shoot.

Call me a fanboy but I'd love to see Vader in just about any film.

Oh wow. This just makes me so excited for this movie.  Actual stormtroopers instead of fat guys in iArmor.

Those looked great! I think we soon need a spoiler tags added to the title but those were just a nice tease. I'd be all over for some beach action in SW universe. Imperial Camp under some palmtrees? Nice.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

What interesting times we live in that another SW film is already in production as we await TFA.

Although I've been avoiding threads and spoilers to do with 'The Force Awakens' for a while now (and hope to do the same with it's sequels), I'm not too fussed about seeing early images from the 'standalone' entries.

Nice to see some 'classic'-looking Stormies in these early set photos, but I'm a little disappointed they haven't been given the original footwear - or at least, it looks that way from these distant pics.  Oh, well, I guess the 'pointy, heeled boots' were an 'upgrade' to the Empire-issued kit come the events of 'A New Hope'. :)

I don't know about that. The events of Rogue One take place just before and lead directly into Star Wars. So its basically within a day or two before the start of the original film.

At least the armors look like they are from the first film and not ROTJ-Troopers, which they used in the additional SE-scenes (even for the Sandtroopers).

They look like they're at a certain hidden rebel base. And I spot some recycled props from TFA. :)

My big question is how closely will this lead up to the original film (basically how prequelly will this be)?

Which sort of goes with my other question which is what will be the time span?

Since this is a spin-off, it has the liberty to jump around the timeline (time gaps, flashbacks, etc.). I could easily see this just being a film about the week before ANH but we could also get some backstory on the characters and the rebellion (for instance it's not surprise they're at Yavin, but will we see how they get there?).

Presumably the final scene could be Vader's Star Destroyer chasing the Tantive, but will they go that far? Will they show Vader? Though they could do either or both, my guess is neither. This is supposed to be a standalone film and I'd imagine they mean that in the truest sense.

What they told us at Star Wars Celebration was that this is the first two paragraphs from the opening crawl:

It is a period of civil war.

Rebel spaceships, striking

from a hidden base, have won

their first victory against

the evil Galactic Empire.

During the battle, rebel

spies managed to steal secret

plans to the Empire's

ultimate weapon, the DEATH

STAR, an armored space

station with enough power to

destroy an entire planet.

Gareth Edwards said he wanted to put the WARS back in Star Wars. So the crew he's hired are all veterans of award winning gritty war films.

Here's the full panel with Gareth and Kathleen Kennedy and here's the teaser they showed us.

You have no idea how psyched I am for this film.
