So weren't there supposed to be only 9 Doctors or something? Have we passed that number?
The limit was thirteen. The War Doctor and the Meta-Crisis Doctor, though not "numbered", counted in this thirteen. The number was surpassed when the Time Lords gave Eleven a new regeneration cycle. Technically, Twelve is number fourteen, but whatever.

Oh, ok that explains it.
K. Let’s have this ride.
Question for you, Bingo. Since there are only a handful of us who are going to understand your new avatar, am I to take it that you approve of Missy?
Ithink if they stick with rumored storyline of traveling with the Doctor for a while this coming season, it would be very interesting.
No doubt, she's not good and can't be trusted, but she could be a powerful ally fighting for a common cause. Her interaction with a now refocused Clara could also be quite interesting.

Still feeling these trailers are bit over-the-top for this show.
Hmm.
So instead of having to defeat WOTAN, this time round the Doctor has to deal with Odin?
“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”
Someone disagreed with me before but I still maintain that Hulu has all of the extant Classic Who. At least from the Fourth Doctor on and this is Hulu Plus I'm referring to. Every arc I've checked has been accounted for.
I was just binge watching seasons 1 to 8 of new Doctor Who on Netflix.
I only knew the first couple of episodes and though it was just too trashy for my taste. I tried it several times, but this series didn't work for me. Then, a couple of weeks ago I just started watching, while doing other things alongside, and once I got to "The empty child" I thought that this thing could get interesting after all. And now I'm very eager to see season 9.
Currently I'm watching Torchwood as well as the first episodes of classic Doctor Who.

So who do you think it is that Maisie Williams is playing?

People who don't enjoy classic british TV will probably find the first doctor hard to get through (though that first episode is enjoyable to most fans).
I really do like what exists (and the audio of) the second Doctor. Particularly season 5 and a couple of the season 6 arcs. The show really peaks at seasons 12-14, though. edit: and, sadly, some of the very best are missing from that Hulu list.
The Hartnell era, though good in its own ways, is very slow. For whatever reason I think of all the Hartnell episodes, The War Machines (and possibly The Tenth Planet) have the best pacing.
What do you mean "missing from that Hulu list"? Do you mean it's not in the list? That would mean that the episode is in fact available on Hulu. Or do you mean it's missing because it's in the hulu list?

Hah, I was pretty unclear there. They're missing *based on* the list posted above. i.e. they're on the list above and missing from Hulu.
Also, Web of Fear is only missing one episode of six since the Nigerian find.
I agree that the War Machines pacing is much faster, and rather akin to the Pertwee era rather than Hartnell. That and Invasion really paved the way for UNIT Earth based stories. Still, after rewatching War Machines, I thought it was a rather weak serial. Tenth Planet is great, despite Hartnell's illness-related absence.
Pacing aside, I think the first episode, Time Meddler, and Aztecs are my favorite Hartnells at the moment.
I find of Hulu's decisions odd, like including Snake Dance but not Kinda, or including every serial in the Key to Time arc except for The Armageddon Factor, you know, HOW THE ARC ENDS! Similarly, skipping The War Games, which ends Two's era, or Terror of the Zygons, which shows the departure of Harry Sullivan as a regular companion...I could go on and on about how some of the serials skipped in the Hulu line-up are important ones, but I digress...

To be fair, Armageddon Factor was an abysmal end to a pretty great season. Maybe they're protecting their viewers :P

My girlfriend and I are watching classic Star Trek right now, so I'm in the 60s mood anyway. Just after Season 5 of nuWho I watched the wonderful TV movie "An Adventure in Space and Time" which made me curious about classic Doctor Who.
The first few seasons are even more slow paced and low budget than Trek. It's more as if you're watching a play. They didn't cut or do reshoots unless they really had to (the entire set falls down, an actor curses, etc). So you'll see people slip up on their lines or repeat them, little stumbles here and there, the occasional set wobble. All part of the charm. :)
The "educational" historical episodes are the worst. I actively find The Gunfighters story offensive, as someone actually from the West. So glad they abandoned that for space adventures.

Depends. By that point in Season 3, most episodes were pretty bad. I really enjoy the Aztecs, and I think Marco Polo would be good fun. Highlanders seemed interesting and I'd love to see The Massacre.

Videotape was expensive (one factor in old episodes being erased) and video editing in post really didn't exist yet. It boggles my mind that videotape was sometimes spliced with a razor blade and glued together in the early days.
The behind the scenes stuff on the Hartnell era DVD's makes one appreciate how technically complex some stories were to pull off, essentially doing them like a "live" show.
To think I used to stress out over doing a simple three camera talk show back in college!
Where were you in '77?
Some of the first episodes were pretty hard to watch, I felt so bad for Hartnell
Every show takes time to find it's legs. Fortunately, the Daleks captured viewer's imaginations in a big way.

It's true that editing was limited. But things were certainly spliced together and/or reshot. They had occasional on location shots for Hartnell (Dalek Invasion, Reign of Terror). My understanding is that the reshoots didn't happen due to being on an extremely tight time schedule. Setting everything up again took a lot of time, and going over the scheduled end time was extremely expensive.

There's a shot with her and those stupid lion people that Romana ran off with...
But I'm barely in the middle of the Fifth Doctor run going through the series chronologically. So I don't have any insight into the current series.
