I thought Luke was Mara Jade.

But anyway, Luke ends up fighting both of them in that level.

I quite enjoyed Star Wars #7. Didn't care much for the action but seeing Obi-Wan in dismay over the sudden change of not being a Jedi was kind of compelling. I'm glad we'll be dabbling into Obi-Wan's 19 years as a hermit from time to time.

Someone posted a cap of a single page from the upcoming Shattered Empire (not a spoiler) in which Old Ben informs a child Luke that he was a friend of his father's, flatly contradicting the dinner scene in ANH where Luke exclaims, "He knew my father?!"

This is a really old post, but I've been going back and looking because I'm getting into SW comics right now and I'm trying to see what's good (I really want the new stuff to be good, but it's not looking like it).

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that "He knew my father?!" is in reference to the Obi-Wan that Leia mentions and that Owen said "died about the same time as your father," not Ben. So I still hold out hope for Shattered Empire.

I tend to agree that Princess Leia was rushed with generally poor art. Waid I generally like most of the things I've read from him, he's a very strong superhero writer but I'm thinking maybe Star Wars was too far out of his comfort zone. Lando I really enjoyed the first issue of. I wasn't crazy about how verbose Lobot was but they did a great job capturing the voice and feeling of the Lando character. Alex Maleev's artwork is  fantastic as well!

Nothing yet about Lando? That was one of my favorite issues so far. I'm loving the murky, noir-ish quality of the art, though I think the monochromatic pages get to be a little much in places. Story-wise there's really nothing innovative going on, but I'll take all the Lobot I can get. Interested to see where this goes from here; the twist at the end seems to take it in a very similar direction to the Tarkin novel. Hopefully this turns out better, because the ship hijacking plot was one of the duller parts of that book.

I was going to wait until #2 to really form my opinions on "Lando". I have the same fear you do, though.

Be careful what you wish for, you may get it.

I have been saving Shattered Empire for after I watch ROTJ in November as part of our "journey to TFA," but I'm very curious if Owen and Beru are depicted as being aware that Anakin survived and became Darth Vader. I believe the Legends consensus was that our heroes at the end of Episode III took Anakin for dead, explaining why they didn't do a very thorough job hiding Luke. Obi-Wan didn't find out that Vader lived on until he saw it on the news one day at the bar, and I presume he just told Owen and Beru that Anakin died in the purge. (He may or may not have mentioned Vader since, again, he believed he was dead.)

Even if all this is the case, it still would be possible for Ben to tell them the truth later at some point. But to me, Owen and Beru's conversation in ANH makes much more sense if I suppose they believe Anakin died along with the bulk of the Jedi.

My stance on revising fan edits.

What does that have to do with Shattered Empire?

I think that was probably Star Wars no. 7, which was a one shot about Obi-Wan set between the PT and OT. Shattered Empire has had nothing to do with Obi-Wan, Owen, or Beru so far. though the final issue is supposed to be pretty Luke-centric, so I guess that would be the place if they're going to go that route. I really don't see much room for it, though.

Oh, yes, and while I’m here, I just want to say that I’ve read Shattered Empire.

Short review: It sucked.

Long review: It was a series of disjointed vignettes that sucked.

That is all.

I still need to finish the first omnibus. I finished the ANH adaption but haven’t gotten much past that.

I’ve gotten distracted by the surprisingly excellent Doctor Who comics that Titan have been putting out. I still plan on trying to get back into the new Marvel Star Wars. But it hasn’t been very promising thus far…

Last night, I read the entire Lando miniseries. At this point, I didn’t think it was possible – I didn’t think Marvel had it in them – but it was – actually, truthfully, honestly was.

Was good, that is.

Sure, there are a few things I’m a little undecided on – I’m not convinced Sith artifacts had to factor into the plot at all, and I don’t know if we really needed to see Lobot’s “origin” – but the art was decent, characterization good if unspectacular, and the story moved along at a nice, even pace without feeling rushed or padded at all.

Charles Soule is definitely a writer whose SW works I’m going to be checking out in the future.

Glowing praise. I’ll definitely have to bump that up in my queue.

Now that TFA is out of the bag, I wonder when we’ll start getting comics set in the ST era.

Side note: I’m still finding the fact that “ST” is now an actual concrete thing to be pretty trippy.

The likelihood of me ever approaching ST-era comics is meagre at best. I think I’ll just stick with the ST films and novelizations (That’s if I don’t find TFA too abhorant. Otherwise, to Hades with it all.).
