Myspleen?

 I've never managed to get an invite. One day I'll get this.

 3 posts here in 2 years?  I'm not surprised.

I realize this is my first post here, but that's natural since I only just found this amazing forum.

I have both the 1080p and the 35mm telecine DVD. I would love to trade one (or both) for a My Spleen invite. That place truly looks amazing.

Or do I even have to put the stipulation of a trade for an invite? I'm happy to share the wealth but desperately want an invite.

I guess what I'm saying is if you really want one or both of the files, PM me to discuss.

PS, I'm gone until Monday so don't expect a quick response. I'll try to get to any PMs before then but no promises.

 What can I say? I never post much on any forum. I often write without ever posting, I'd rather stay quiet than posting just to add to a post count.

Same. Personally, I very rarely post because I don't have much to say, and don't like to flap my jaws on forums (I'm an IRC person).

I've lately become active on Twitter, mainly out of necessity (I'm in contact with some Apple ][ preservationists and am building off their work by porting the disks they rip to make them hard-drive installable).

 I'm exactly the same.

I'm so happy that you guys all keep this film alive when Disney will never give it to us. I found this forum close to 10 years ago when my grandmother mentioned seeing the film in her younger days and wanted to know why it wasn't available. These HD transfers give me hope. Some of the stills I've seen blow away the BBC broadcast (the version I have).

My business partners father just passed away a few weeks ago and we came across a 16mm copy of the film. He's looking to sell it, but we can't really find a solid answer for what it's worth, looks like one sold on eBay 5 years ago for $2750, is this high or low? it's the only instance of it we could find, any ideas if I should tell him to throw it on ebay or any other suggestions on where to sell something like this?

That is pretty high, one sold recently for $1200

you could try the 16mm and 8mm forum, but it will probably fetch a higher price on ebay.

I could clean and scan the film for you, being able to post some high quality video of the film along with the sale would probably increase the bidding considerably.

Is there actually someone working on a 35mm print of this film? I've heard many things and would like to finally know the facts.

No AMPS members, at least.

A very compressed encode of a 35mm IB Technicolor scan exists, but the 16mm scan looks much better.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

 Yeah, I have the 16mm version, looked really good, was just hoping that someone was restoring this in 35mm. Really love this film, one of Disney's best. I am a big old-school Disney fan.

I found the 16mm on a torrent site. While I think the colors could use some work, I love being able to see the grain and detail so much more than the BBC DVD. It's such a beautiful work of art.

The 16mm capture is more complete, but the version posted on the newsgroups was a WMV. I wrote an AviSynth script for it:

DirectShowSource("Song of the South 16mm 1080p.wmv",fps=29.97, convertfps=True)
Trim(204,0) tfm(order=1).tdecimate().converttoyv12()
ConvertToYV12().crop(226,0,-226,0).LanczosResize(720,480)

But try as I might to clean up the color, it didn't satisfy.

The 35mm copy - which was posted as a DVD - had much better color, but suffered from damage, particularly at the end of each reel. (There was about 30-35 seconds missing from one of the Br'er Rabbit sequences.) I filled-in the latter with the missing footage from the former to fill in the gaps. My splices are clean, but I'm sure a better editor could do more with it.

IIRC the 16mm wmv is not 29.97 fps.
Shirley you don't need TFM().TDecimate ?

That reminds me, I never posted our IVTC script for the 'spleen LD(s) promised months ago . . .

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

You are correct. By default, it played back at 30 fps.

The script, as I built it, was created to run through multiAVCHD to produce a spec-compliant AVCHD.

"Shirley" it's a matter of preference; this is mine. YMMV.

I don't think that has any relation to SOTS at all.

Yeah, that has nothing to do with the SotS we're working with...
