Silly doubleohfive. I was actually referring to the intercuts to the principal conspirators (Admiral Cartwright, General Chang, and Nanclus the Romulan Ambassador) during the scene when Spock obtains their names from a forcible mind-meld with Valeris.
A highly distracting addition to what had been a very tense scene--and the added sound effects do nothing to improve the jarring feel of the cut-aways.
