If the changes don't affect frame count, yes. Its possibly not worth it though. If the mix hasn't been changed since the theatrical release, then the lossless audio on the blu-ray is better.

At least having the theatrical audio is beneficial for preservation.

It's only really beneficial if the mixes differ. If they are the same then there is no benefit to cinema DTS. Its compressed, only partially discreet, and has a lower bit-depth and fewer samples per second than a lossless track found on a blu-ray. At least some Cinema DTS discs, if not all, have clipping in places too.

That said, it could be useful in determining whether there are any differences in the blu-ray track. If there do prove to be some, it would be worth preserving.

The DVD mix of ROTS should be the same, or at the very least, have no changes. The ROTS blu-ray has the added clone trooper sounds, remember?

Nobody sang The Bunny Song in years…

I've already done sync's for ROTS and TPM.  I'm not sure why I never shared them.  I'll be able to post them to myspleen when I get home from vacation in the middle of August.

I have a full-on theatrical version of ROTS that I did based on my HDTV reconstruction and the Blu Ray which I can post as well.

Dang, that's exciting news! I hate the DVNR Blu-ray version of ROTS so much, but it's the closest to theatrical that we have. I can't wait to compare the two. And you might want to alert RU.08 about TPM.

I've tweaked the surrounds on the SE mixes because they weren't right and I've stuck the final versions up on the spleen. Same format as before with video and the Dolby Digital tracks from the Laserdiscs for muxing so there is something to go along with/compare them to.

I'll make mono WAVs available privately to any who want them in the coming days.

So how does one mix the laserdisc video with the DTS audio?

I'm not sure I know what laserdisc video you're referring to, unless you mean the video reference for each film included with the DTS-HD files?

You need to mux them into a container such as MKV, M2TS, or something similar using one of the many free tools available (such as mkvmerge).

edit: But not MP4, I don't think that accepts DTS-HD.

I’ve seen contradictory information in different places; has it been determined if these 97SE theatrical mixes are the same as the on the 97SE laserdiscs (apart from codec, bitrate, and possible attenuation of the surrounds)?

Also, was the sound completely/majorly remixed for 2004 DVDs, or is the 2004 mix largely the same as either/both of the 1997 mixes (apart from obvious changes like Emperor, Boba Fett, etc.?)

I believe so.

Yup. If you have the DVD, listen to Tarkin and Leia right before Alderaan explodes, you will hear strange leveling issues that aren’t present in the 97 DTS track.

Star Wars was completely remixed. (In a terrible fashion; the 2004/2011 mix is atrocious). ESB and ROTJ are mostly the '97 mixes with more changes.

For the sake of preserving them, I think this has already been recently accomplished. So you might have better luck with a collector in the Marketplace subforum.

Does anyone have the DTS discs for Titanic? Anyone willing to do a sync or has anyone possibly done that already?

I’m more just keen on comparing the track to the Blu-ray which some friends of mine claim have been changed from the theatrical mix. To my ears, the AC3 and DTS LaserDiscs do sound better than the Blu-ray, but it’s close.
