I recommend watching The Final Cut (2007) of Blade Runner.

Btw Blade Runner is, besides Star Wars OT and Alien, the best film ever made.

Yeah but you like Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes, so your opinion is invalid.

I've just watched the deleted scenes of Blade Runner from the Final Cut Blu-ray. It's really amazing how, when put together in one long reel, they're essentially a 45-minute-long parallel cut of the entire film.

Not only that: in my opinion, the much-derided voice-over and (now rather less) "happy ending" as seen here actually work much better than in the theatrical cut. Probably because the camera in the deleted scenes rarely moves far from Deckard, so this "alternate cut" of sorts feels more novelistic overall. (Of course the fact that Ford's narration is entirely different than in the 1982 releases helps immensely too.)

One other detail I liked is seeing Tyrell complain in a note to his personal chefs that his evening glass of milk is "still too hot". This shows the screenwriters really doing their research for the idea of an Asian-dominated future LA; the tradition in China even today is to drink one's milk and water hot, as traditional Chinese medicine thought drinking cold liquids was dangerously unhealthy.

Jurassic World

I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Yeah, it might seem a little implausible for that park to open, but Six Flags has stayed open after they've endured some pretty horrific accidents over the years.

There's some cliche moments, and a lot of the film plays on nostalgia, but I still very much enjoyed it.

I didn't care for the performances of the children, but they were good enough stock characters.

I did enjoy Chris Pratt's character, and was glad to see that he kept his comedic chops for the film. It's one of the things that made Harrison Ford and Jackie Chan such fun actors to watch. His badassness was a little over the top, but compared to most action films, I'd say it was pretty middle of the road.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

The best bit from the deleted material reel is when Rachael says to Deckard...

Rachael: "You know what I think? I think today has been the best day of my life. You know what else I think? That you and I were made for each other."

Last movie seen was Foodfight. Trust me, its far more painful to watch without NC's gags inbetween (which had way more thought and creativity than what Joel "Bat Tits" Schumacher put into that mess). Makes "The Room" look like an Emmy winning comedy.

Ant-Man (2015)

Loved it!

I had some strong reservations going in but it blew my expectations away! Lots of humor but done in a grounded way that fits the universe.

As well as some great action. The sequence where he first tests out his suit in a live situation and has to engage in combat was phenomenal.

Also, that had to be THE best use of digitial de-aging to date. Michael Douglas looked flawless as his 40 year old self.

It did decently at the box office so I'm hoping we might see another outing someday.

The Babadook (2014)

As good as everyone says.  My favorite new horror movie since the original Insidious. I give it 9 children I remember from How I Met Your Mother out of 10.

Shepard & Dark

Highly recommended.  On the surface, it's about longtime friends Sam Shepard and Johnny Dark sorting through their many letters to each other for a book.  Underneath, it's about a close friendship that blossomed despite and because of their many differences; it's also about a close friendship that's drifted apart, probably permanently.  Johnny Dark, pothead and hermit, is very much an archivist, keeping all of the letters and photographs the two have shared over their adult lives (they were related by marriage for several years).  Sam Shepard, drinker and wanderer, is going through the material for the first time.  Though they share a deep history, they struggle to properly reconnect as they work on this project, particularly Shepard, who does not like sifting through the past nearly as much as Dark.  It's a very low-key, conversational documentary, basically hanging out with the two of them as they sort through their letters and reminisce about the years when they were very close.  It's also quite sad in a way that only non-fiction can be, capturing how age and experience can cause people to drift away from each other; they will always share a deep affection for the other, but also seem aware that they can probably never regain the closeness of their peak years.

That’s impossible, even for a computer.

You just gave a better grade to Final Destination than to The Matrix.  You are no longer welcome in this thread.

Final Destination has an interesting premise. For that alone, I'm on the verge of giving it an extra point.

The Matrix, on the other hand ... Well, for insipid pablum, it isn't bad. A "C" is a more than generous score for a film of its ilk.

The Matrix was such a great film, that anything inspired by it ruined it. The sequels sucked. The movies trying to cash in on it's style sucked. I don't hate the movie, but it soured for me.
