Well, I have good news. Still trying to get all the details but some of us might have found a 35mm print of BTTF to rent and have scanned. I'm posting this here to see if there is enough interest and money (more importantly money) to get this scanned. Probably all in it would be $900, maybe more, maybe less. So its not cheap but frankly its a very rare opportunity.

If anyone thinks the can donate please let me know

(AMPS guys can view the post over there too)

Any word on bttf 2 35mm print as well?

Looking for 2 also so there is the possibility. All depends of we can get people to donate.

I hope you find it. If only universal would go back to the original camera negatives of all three films scan it at the best resoultion they can. Use no dnr and no edge enhancement, color corrected them and put the original audio on them. It would blow the original blu rays out of the water.

But it would also not earn them much money, if any. Most people (including some people here!) are satisfied with the BD as is.

I agree with you, jedimasterobiwan. The problem is that most people just don't give a shit.

Just take a look at the sales numbers for the "Ultimate Hunter Edition" Predator BD.

DNR messes make money and they're cheap to produce.

It's not as bad as it was though.  There has been a steady improvement.  4K remasters are starting to be the 'in' thing now.

In the late 2000s, many films had old 1080p or 2K masters that dated back a decade, which were simply ported to Blu-ray and digitally 'cleaned up' without a second thought.

If studios and TV manufacturers are serious about pushing 4K, then they have to put the effort into the film transfers.  The only persistent problem I see not ending anytime soon is the blue/teal tint that's been the rage.

so no dnr and no edge enhancement on 4k including universal disney etc releases

 That's great bagerstuta!

I know a lot of people don't have the money but just giving $10 or $20 would go a long way to help.

The more people we get to even donate even alittle adds up fast. The key is many donators though.

I have to ask:

Are there any german audio tracks (BR, LD, DVD) synched to the DCP?

Edit:

Just found that buried in this thread. So I can do it myself.

Btw, if anyone wants to sync any other audio tracks from the official Blu-ray release, just add a delay of -2343 ms to the audio track in tsMuxer. It will be in sync with the DCP version then.

Well if we can't get any movement and help on 1, there is no point to working on 2. People here expressed a desire to see a 35mm print scanned but from what I hear a 35mm print of BTTF in private hands is very rare. It took a lot of effort for someone to locate number 1. So if you want to see the original colors, framing, grain, etc, scanning an original print is the only way to do that.

Jurassic Park was the first (Non-SW) scan to come out but there are a lot of other great films are being worked on right now. Problem is there is a small group paying out of their own pockets to see these films scanned. And its for purely altruistic reasons. They just want people to see the film they love, the way it was meant to look, the way it looked in the theater. Problem is there is only so much money to go around and it is drying up. No one here is rich.

So if you want to see BTTF please commit to donate. We are not asking for hundreds of dollars just $20 or hell even a bunch of people at $10 would help. Otherwise its not going to happen.

Stick me down for $100.  Anyone with a passing interest in seeing BTTF in it's best possible light should try and get involved.  Universal certainly aren't going to do the decent thing

PDB - any idea what kind of shape the print is in ?

badgerstuta, any way you can get the word out to other BTTF fans you know of?

it seems like universal disney are the ones who mostly do this why. i mean fox did it with predator but that was the only movie i know of that fox did bad. by the way i know i got an answer for this earlier i just don't understand how those studios can ruin their legacy.

Yes, but the people at AMPS are mostly the same people here.

There has to be a way to seek more help without calling attention to the wrong people.

Thanks for the pledge badgerstuta but it looks like the opportunity to scan BTTF is not there anymore. A generous soul is going to keep looking for another print to scan but it looks we don't have enough donations anyway. Thanks again, that was generous of you.

Damn, did the opportunity get away because we didn't have enough donations and waited too long, or what?

If I had known we were on a ticking clock, I may have just bitten the bullet and donated the full amount. :(

This is why we need more people willing to donate.

What a shame.  Fingers crossed that kind soul can source another print.  If it was a ticking clock that stopped this happening I'd also have upped my donation
