Fuck me you guys go off topic!

Anyway, I read the Thrawn shit and Dark Empire when they were first released. The Thrawn shit was good, Hair to the Empire an' all that, that was good stuff.
Dark Empire with the cloning Emperor and stuff I thought was shite. Couldn't get into that shit. I read the novels untill all the Jedi Academy stuff. Started to read the following novels but they just bored me stupid. This was all before TPM came out. The novels became all political and shit, I thought fuck me, what happened to Star Wars, so I stopped reading them. Then the Phantom Menace came out and I thought fuck me!!

Nuff said!

I know we all want to have Zahn's children on this site (well, most of us) but I really was impressed by the Specter/Vision books. I thought in the original zahn trilogy he really captured Star Wars well, much better than the PT did. Then the PT started coming out, all these other books that more or less twisted the Star Wars universe into an entirely different beast than it was originally. What I thought happened in Zahn's second set of books is he not only re-captured the feel that Star Wars had before any of the extra stuff came out, but he actually used the expanded universe and twisted it BACK into what Star Wars used to be.

Like finding OT, those books really revitalized the whole thing for me.

What? ROTJ? What are we talking about here?

Exactly, books like Barbara Hambly's (and to a lesser Degree KJA's) just completely missed the feeling of Star Wars.

Which is a shame...I read another book by Barbara Hambly called "those who hunt the night", about vampires. It rocked my world (this was Jr. High, so I don't know how it reads as an adult). So I was REALLY excited for her Star Wars book. which was... not good. At all. What was it called? Children of the Jedi?

Incidentally, one of Hambly's books was like the 1st one I read after the Thrawn trilogy, I almost lost faith in the SW EU, but I gave it another chance and gave the X-Wing Series a try...and that was 5 years ago, I haven't looked back

How so do these SW books suck-much? I havent read much outside of NJO.

Maybe we should start a separate thread just for EU discussion.

You are SO right!!!! Especially about the DS and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Awesome stuff, there. I was disappointed with Halo 2 and Half-Life2, but everything else was so awesome!

IMO, the only thing interesting in ROTJ are the drama portions centering specifically on Luke, Vader and the Emperor. Everything else, to me is cannon fodder.
