Info: Star Wars preservation from children's toy

I shared this over on AMPS, but it belongs here too. Some guys on Youtube took apart a children’s toy which contains a “rare format of unusually high quality” (Super 8mm) sequence of frames, and then transferred those frames by telecine. They also transferred audio from a record (because the 8mm film did not have a soundtrack) - and it sounds pretty good. See what you think:

Not bad at all considering it came out of a toy!

Yes, it's too bad they aren't a member here. ;)

Where were you in '77?

*cough* Puggo *cough* Affectionate Parody *cough* old news *cough*

I bet you were the one who made a thread out of this very recently in fanres.com

Parody or not, they still transferred the video from the toy.

I feel like I've seen this somewhere before.

Puggo, a long-standing member here who has released multiple film based projects, is responsible for that restoration is what they're saying. There's probably a buried thread about it somewhere.

Either way it's always cool for people to find one of these projects and experience it and come back here to share.

Preferred Saga:
1,2: Numeraljoker extended
3: L8wrtr
4,6-9: Hal9000
5: Adywan

I think it would be in the Puggo Grande thread, if anywhere?

A toy???  It was a profound discovery!!

Seriously, I never started a thread for it.  I have the remaining cartridges, and my plan is to telecine all of them and make a DVD of all of them.  Still soliciting ideas for a name (best I could come up with was "Puggo's Puppies", but I'm not entirely satisfied with it).  Once that project bubbles to the top of the queue, I'll start a thread.

If you want to play off the coffee connotations of Puggo Grande, you could call it "Puggo Ristretto".  A short shot with the same amount of coffee as a full shot.  Or just "Puggo Breve", which is a little easier to say.

I thought you did release it? Or were those digest versions something different?

Something different. Those were ordinary Super 8s.

You should ask if Lucasfilm will exchange your outdated cartridges for the Special Edition!

Huh. Somehow I doubt even the 97se's exist in super 8mm form.

Then they'll just have to give him a 70mm version instead.

No they're some other exceptionally high quality format.
