Info & Idea: Back to the Future - To Be Continued=>

Back to the Future, when originally released in theaters, had no “To Be Continued” title card before the end credits. This was added for home video releases. When the DVD version was released, they opted to remove it so as to more accurately reflect the original theatrical version.

While that is something most of us here can sympathize with, I personally tend to miss that title card when its not there. Does anyone know where I can find that brief video element in HD quality? I would like to throw together a custom version for myself with it included. (Then a custom version of Part II that simply removes the trailer before the credits. I understand faithfulness to the original version, but there’s no reason to have the trailer around anymore.)

My stance on revising fan edits.

Did they actually do the "To Be Continued" card in HD? After all, it was done for video release.

Yes it I'm pretty sure it was printed on 35mm and scanned for the video release.

The best quality I have is a rip from my LD, I've searched everywhere else and  sadly it seems to be unavailable in HD.

I have seen the German "To be continued" card. Contrary to the Part 2 card, it looked quite digital and low-res to me (rather pixelated). However, that might have been just the German home video editing process.

Interesting! Would love to see what it looks like.

They kept the English title card for the French home video releases.

Beside the typical laserdisc noise you can clearly see some film dust which makes me think it was actually printed on 35mm.

Wow, so I didn't imagine this after all!

I remembered a "to be continued" at the end, but when I got my trilogy DVD set it wasn't there so I assumed my memory was faulty and I was just making it up.

One of the featurettes has the To Be Continued portion. You can take that and edit it into the rest of the film.

Now that's interesting! They kept the English TBC card, but translated the rest of the credits ("Avec" instead of "With").

And yes, that looks like film to me.

What about the MUSE release? Did that have "To Be Continued..."?

I bet it did.

Which one?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Here's the TBC logo from the DVD featurettes:

After finding a clip of this on Youtube, should be easy to do really.

I created these myself in AutoCAD recently.  I'd be happy to recreate the "To Be Continued" graphic as well if there's enough interest in my doing so.

Nice, but I think they're too clean to be used in the film context.

Sorry for bumping a year old thread but maybe someone could be interested in the "To Be Continued" logo I've made. Here it is: LINK

I've used a high bitrate so it can be used with the DCPrip. The logo itself is not perfect but pretty close to the original.

EDIT: Link updated with better looking version.

Technically they didn't remove it for DVD, they scanned the neg and it was never there

Thanks! And thanks for replying because you seem to be the only one interested in my version of the TBC logo :-)

I miss the TBC card, but I can't convince myself to waste a whole burnable DVD for something so insignificant =|

If the TBC card was done on film, there's a chance that they also appeared on double bill and/or foreign reissue prints. If they were for the video releases and TV airings only, they would've been edited on video at 30fps. That's something to think about.

It was done on film at 24fps, but I'm still pretty sure it only appeared on video/TV.

Yeah, I know it was done in 24fps film (the title wobbles a bit and has some specks, telltale sign for being film). I've seen it on both my 1994 VHS reprint and a 1998 USA channel airing when I was 5. I know the DVDs (2002 Trilogy batches and the 2009 reprints) and the BD of all three films use the negative prints (where it is not on). The reissue thing I mentioned because I think the first film was in a double bill with select screenings of II when it came out, same with III (for BTTF II). So its possible it appeared on those if one came across 35mm reissue prints of ether film. I know its a somewhat minor thing that everyone is talking about, but if something on a film existed at one point that was cut from later release, its worth inquiring upon and preserving.
