Hope everyone had a good 4th of July. The Muppets reaffirm my conviction that we should change our national anthem to America the Beautiful.

 No, negative, not, can't, won't, don't.

Our national anthem has, is and will always be The Star Spangled Banner and that's that.

I think you mean The Defence of Fort M'Henry, good sir. ;)

NB: In case it isn't obvious, M'Henry is an old-fashioned alternate spelling for McHenry, so don't go getting any funny ideas about the pronunciation.

Feel free, however, to joke about the fact that the American national anthem's original title was spelled using British English.

I believe by the time it was officially adopted as our national anthem, the name had changed to the Star Spangled Banner.

Our national anthem has(since whenever it was officially adopted as such), is and will always be The Star Spangled Banner and that's that.

It's not too late to fix that mistake. The focus on a battle from the War of 1812 that happened to inspire an amateur poet, put to a rather obnoxious melody, and not even adopted as the National Anthem until 1931(!) does not merit such deference.

Why don't we just adopt "Dixie" as our national anthem?  Most people secretly want it anyway!

it is not a mistake, it is not an obnoxious tune, and it does not need fixing.

But "Dixie" once represented the national anthem for half the states?  How can you just shrug it off like it has no history?

Author

Because it mostly represented the states that seceded to keep slavery?  And I don't mean represents those states NOW as that would be a different story, it represented those states at the time.  Pretty simple to see why that's a bad idea, but what do I know.

but not the other half.

big difference between shrugging it off, and saying "hell no." to it being our national anthem.

If you guys haven't caught that I'm kidding and making reference to the overzealous banning of the Confederate flag, then I'm afraid you are utterly hopeless ;)

All I can blame it on is the Kindle Fire's autocorrect.  It should have known that "ar" is "are", not "at", except when I mean "at", and then it's okay.  Gosh, lousy autocorrect.

The Star Spangled Banner is the national anthem, period end of sentence.

Most people don't end their sentences after the period.

Don't want to get your spangle in a twist but I'm afraid we will just have to disagree, #semicolon elipsis...
