Looks decent! Is it... available anywhere?

So the audio is english, are there hard russian subs over it?

AFAIK its no longer "out there". I just hung onto it as bootlegs have a certain historical significance and I try to keep them for posterity. I'm sure one of the other pack rats on here will have the full DVD files stored away somewhere. None, I'm looking at you :-)

There are no russian subs, but I don't know if this was originally dubbed in Russian and just had its audio replaced from a different source.

The end credits are all English too.

Interestingly, the Russian TC is lacking the single change said to have occurred between the theatrical and DVD release (mentioned here: http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/articles/star-wars-the-changes-part-four.html?post_id=79063&action=report ). This could be because this is a workprint. Or it could be due to misinformation/misremembering the theatrical release.

It is also possible that the wipe was added fairly late in the editing process and they accidentally reverted to the earlier version for the DVD release. But if this was first introduced for the Blu-ray, the DVD/HDTV is 100% identical to the theatrical release. Not only that, but it's the only case where this is true for the six Star Wars films, GOUT aside.

edit: the entire order of shots may actually be different. Don't have the DVD on hand.

??? The Wipe IS there in both the workprint and the russian tc!!! and wheter the dvd (wipe is missing) nor the bluray (wipe is now in but there are clones talking on utapau and there are things on the wookierooftops) are the theatrical cut...

Is there a visual quality difference between the Russian TC and the Workprint?

I have the workprint so maybe I need to check out this Russian TC.

I've just compared Satanika's files to the ones I have.

We both have the film split into two AVIs which fit on a CD-R. They both have the same resolution and frame rate.

When comparing the two versions side by side, Satanika's is quite a bit sharper. Satanika's version seems to have better compression with less macroblocking too.

The files are split differently, but cut off the end credits in the same place.

These are obviously different encodes from the same source.

Here are a few screengrabs. Mine top, Satanika's bottom:

The very last frame of both sources:

A dumb question - is this in any way different than the official release? I thrashed my copy 10 years ago because I thought it's the same as the official DVD except the wipe

Strange. Perhaps I was looking at the wrong shot?

So for my first time watch of Episode III should I watch the Russian TC or the Blu - Ray? I know I'm watching the TC on a 42 inch so quality won't be the best! But I heard the Blu - Ray changes a lot of thing!

Please let me know which one is better!

Definitely the Blu-ray for III. They've changed essentially nothing in this film, compared to the other Star Wars movies. I've seen that film on lists of "reference quality" blu-ray discs. I don't know how to qualify such a thing, and my own setup isn't good enough for something like that to matter. But the picture quality is good and they haven't messed with the color/plot/cgi/etc this time. When someone buys the "Complete Saga", this is probably the only disc they're getting that's decent. Assuming they don't hate the film. :)

I've got this version and to me, it seems more like a Telesync rather than a TC. I  watched it till an actual telecine came along and then kept it for historical curiosity.

It's been a while since I've viewed it but from memory, the audio suffers at one stage from what sounds like wow-and-flutter and at another point, from interference caused by a cellular phone. The framing isn't correct either and when compared with the telecine and retail DVD, it appears that portions of the image have been cropped.
