Darth / Frink, could you take a moment and explain what you're talking about with respect to the makeup of Team Negative1? I see cryptic comments here and there, and I'd love to know what you're talking about.
Thanks!

They're claiming that the original member, negative1, is still a member of the team despite the team frequently claiming otherwise because the team account has written several posts in negative1's idiosyncratic style.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.
I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

We think all the posts are still in his style, but his style has evolved (some).
We also think beer makes us even more handsome, which is pretty (we intended that pun) impressive given how handsome we already are.

Don't listen to what the Frink account says - Frink won't be able to answer your question. Frink hasn't posted in weeks, his account is now the Team Olie account and Frink is no longer a member, from what we hear. There are rumors he was interested in using our account but after Stinky-Dinkins left team Stinky-Dinkins we're having trouble convincing him. We last heard he was so confused by our inexplicable decision to name our team after a man who is no longer a member that his anus blew off.

Talking of repeats, I found several repeated frames in the preview last week:
9188 & 9189
15218 & 15219
26022 & 26023
27276 & 27277
I remember you mentioned replacing some dark shots from an Eastman source.
In such a scenario, if the first frame of a shot got repeated somehow
or the last frame of a replaced shot had been repeated ...
[... even then I still wouldn't understand. Who am I trying to fool?]
Those examples given are all from the middle of shots. How bizarro!
Cue the P.R. guy to tell us once again
that all problems will have been solved by your top men.
Just keep repeating it ...

I think it has to do with framerates and the encoding software used to generate the previews. I know that the team has put together a 23.976 fps GOUT sync'd version of the LPP to see if it was all there, and the only frames that are missing are at the Reel changes. (This happens because most cinemas in the 1980s had switched to a platter system, whereby all 6 reels would be spliced together onto a giant reel allowing the theater manager save some $$ by firing his highly trained projectionist and hiring some spotty teen to turn the machine on and off. Because they couldn't project the Heads/Tails of each reel, the first and last frames of the film would have to be spliced together, and would quickly get damaged and cut off the next time they were spliced. This wouldn't lead to audio sync issues since the audio track was right there on the film.)
Anyway, since there is no reason to repeat any frames (except at the reel changes, and then only in order to sync to the GOUT). It looks to me like the preview may have been rendered at 24 fps in such a way that frames were duplicated here and there, rather than just slowing down the existing frames, then it was encoded again at 23.976 fps which may have decimated some of those extra frames or may have been simply sped them up. Provided the final render does not go through the same process this should not be a problem, and if it was the watermarking process that did it, then that shouldn't be an issue.
And as you say, I'm sure they will have Top Men working on the final render, ensuring such mistakes won't happen...

Thanks for the Team -1 (and Team Ollie North) explanations. I imagine that we'll never really know.

Not to mention the frequency and vehemence of those denials is pretty wildly out of proportion to any casual mention of -1 (even to people who accidentally choose the wrong shortened form of team_negative1, not intending to say anything at all about membership of the team), considering they engage in no other discussion of specific current or former team members whatsoever.
Style yes, and substance too.
21:9 aspect monitor, I'm looking at you (not literally.)
And how about that un-IVTC-able CED preservation revival?
Looking at you was no fun at all...

Honestly, what does it matter who is and is not on the team? Why not just let them finish the project? I just can't understand what point you guys are trying to make.
Cue the Luke "I Care" image.
Some would say not wanting to play along with the charade qualifies as caring. If you do, then I care. If you don't, then I don't.
EDIT: Sorry, I was responding to the original question "Who cares?" As for the point, our failure to entertain the ruse will hardly slow this project down. Maybe I've had too many friends ask me to lie for them in the past. It's just not healthy for a community for people to ask that of them.
OK, I understand the point. I just don't understand how any of this has any kind of bearing on the quality of the project itself.
Ergh, I'll stop editing my posts if you do. It's a "community" thing. First, trying to trick your community isn't cool, no matter how poorly it's executed. Secondly, trying to get your community to lie on your behalf (by nod and wink if not by fooling them) is also not cool. Thus the occasional flare-up. It has nothing to do with the project itself.
OK, I'll stop editing too. Sorry about that.
We like editing.
And Star Wars.
And editing Star Wars.

Anyway, I understand. Valid points. I am more concerned with stuff like the compression and noise removal artifacts in some of the previews, not to mention that it feels like some of the same previews have been rehashed over the years, and some times don't show much increase in quality. But the ESB Grindhouse release and the recent stills eased some of my worries, as it shows they are capable of higher quality than their earlier previews let on.
I guess I misinterpreted it as a criticism of their general opacity, and/or their lack of transparency on their cleanup/encoding processes.

Are you saying the ruse is that negative1 is no longer a part of the project (I think virtually everyone is in agreement about that...), or that there is indeed mid-to-large size group working on this stuff, rather than just one guy? Aspects of their updates and progress do suggest to me that it's a team.
I'm kind of on the fence about caring about this. On the one hand, I think deception is unnecessary and strange. On the other hand, as far as I can tell it is 100% about privacy concerns and/or paranoia than a need to trick people. As people have pointed out, there is no real privacy when it comes to Disney/law/anyone who cares to really figure it out. But if it's only a silly motive, and not a malicious one, I don't quite see what's offensive about it. Most people would probably be dishonest to received credit for something they haven't done rather than exactly the opposite.
I think some people are just frustrated at the paranoia. It's kind of like that weird cousin everyone has that lines his Toyota Dolphin with aluminum foil so that the "man" doesn't know where they are. Like has been said, if anyone (Disney, Fox, FBI, or anyone else for that matter) wanted to find someone on here, it would be painfully easy for them to do so. Heck, some of the people here are in the industry and the hammer hasn't come down on them! I think people are just frustrated with the whole cloak and dagger thing, that's all.
I also think some people secretly miss the general craziness that was -1's style. :)
thats all for now
will be keeping people posted

Because if -1 is no longer on Team -1 (and he's not, they said so), but Team -1 continues his work and is now imitating his posting style perfectly - there's only one conclusion I can make. The sincerest form of flattery:
Murder.

Shows what you know. When the team decides to name the team solely after the member that doesn't want to be implicated, it makes it almost impossible to figure out who the man behind the curtain is. Listen, if you were working on a project that made you nervous, the first thing you'd want to do to throw them off your trail is the change your user account from ww12345 to Team ww12345.... then it's like checkmate, suckers!
