mtv is one of the most rediculous things in the media (currently). It honestly has no constructive purpose, but on that note - neither does most tv in general.
The only thing Ill give to mtv is that they support the rock the vote program. But honestly, they dont even do that very convincingly.

Long live public television, the Discovery channel, and the History channel.

Lethe, what about the food network(iron chef), sci fi (quantum leap), and Tech Tv?

As for Mtv, I find some of there shows mildly entertaining. There so called reality shows makes for a fun psychological test study for me. But that i think is it. When i was a teen i watched MTV and BET religiously, but now i can barely stand to watch them, same with listening to the radio, it is all the same crap over and over again...

These can stay as well. I didnt mean to exclude them, I guess I just hadnt though about them. Iron Chef is one of the greatest television programs ever created. I havent watched quantum leap since i was like 8.

i dvr quantum leap every night, and watch them on the weekends when me and wife have nothing to do. She was resiliant to it at first, but i think she likes it more than me now...

I'll cotton to being an Iron Chef fan; I even bought the book.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

I watch:

Stargate: SG1 and Stargate: Atlantis every Friday.
DS9 on SpikeTV usually every Monday and Tuesday before work.

I'd watch Enterprise if I wasn't working. Luckily, my dad Tivos it (he and my brother watch it Saturday when I'm at work...I have to wait until Wednesday).

There is nothing good on TV. Movies rule I lke Pirates of the Carribean and Lordof The rings. And Starwars of course...... can't forget that.

THE MTV GENERATION CONSISTS OF THOSE WHO WERE BORN IN THE SEVENTIES AND GREW UP IN THE EIGHTIES. I CAN'T STAND MTV NOW. IT WAS COOL WHEN IT ONLY HAD MUSIC VIDEOS ON IT, BUT THOSE DAYS ARE LONG GONE. I TOO AM A HUGE IRON CHEF FAN.

I did forget to mention IFC, which really does attempt to bring good films to TV - albeit its not cable tv or anything.

Well, what "Generation" would people born after 1986 be in?

I wish I could say that I remember when the sex was dirty and the air was clean but those two have been switcherooed for longer than I can recall.

My generation had Disco and Punk. The Fourth Doctor. A fear of the water based on a certain film. The deaths of Elvis Presley, John Lennon and Jim Henson to deal with. The Mad Max trilogy and the revitalised Aussie film industry. The one true Superman thanks to Christopher Reeve, Richard Donner and Mario Puzo. American Werewolf In London, Ghosbusters, The Evil Dead, Back to the Future. My generation remembers V. My generation remembers when Brian Cox was Michael Mann's 'Hannibal Lekter'. We had "We Are The World" and "Heal The World", the stupefyingly rediculous and moronic 'Star Wars' weapons platform in orbit program, the breaking reports of Chernobyl, getting up early in the morning to watch the space shuttle Challenger launch only to be transfixed in horror, the end of the Cold War, Gaza, Shiites, Muslim fundamentalists versus Christian fundamentalists in a battle to the death of us all, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Space Race. Slashers in the form of Leatherface, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Charles 'Chucky' Lee Ray and the deconstruction and revitalisation of the genre thanks to Kevin Williamson. Milli Vanilli and Vanilla Ice. Thalidomide, AIDS, HIV, corporate greed and globalisation, stolen elections, terrorism and neocons erecting a Theocracy where once stood a great nation built on the ideals of Freedom and Liberty for ALL. Remakes of films we saw in theatres on their first run plus remakes of bad political decisions such as the stupefyingly rediculous and moronic 'Star Wars' weapons platform in orbit program. Two times the Bush two times the Gulf War and two times the terror. LPs to CDs to DVDs, the introduction of home microwaves, BBS and the internet. My generation also has the ability to remember when rap meant something and when the right to political expression was free and available to all. We remember when music had lyrics and not just sampled and stolen beats from better songs for credibility.

My generation remembers watching Star Wars in the cinema and we remember the film as it was and always should be not as it is now.

Hey, I just calls 'em as I sees 'em.

I'm optimistic that there's light at the end of this dark tunnel we've entered but unfortunately it's at least another four years away.

Yeah Takeshi's Castle is great fun.

You should check out Takeshi Kitano's seriously violent films like Brother, HanaBi (Fireworks), Violent Cop and Zatoichi. He's a fantastic director and storyteller.

He's also known as 'Beat' Takeshi when he performs standup but I've never seen any of his standup stuff. He's also a prolific writer.
