Yeah, I replayed and beat Majora's Mask using a PS3 controller, and thanks to spending a lot of time mapping everything and adjusting the sensitivity, it ended up being easier than the N64 controller.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Wasn't X7 considered worse?

Damn, you were right.  I forgotten how awful X7 was. X6 had terrible, awful, atrocious level and boss design but it least it still had a game engine that was fun to play.  The only thing about X7 that's even remotely fun is using the Z-Saber, and it's practically useless anyway.  Everything about this game is truly terrible.  They even took concepts which should have been fun and managed to make them infuriating.  This game wouldn't even be very hard if it weren't for the atrocious camera angles and horrible response time/character control.  Holy shit, X8 better be better (never played it before) or else next time I go through this series I'm stopping at X5 (which was the original intended ending anyway.)

You would think Microsoft would be busy trying to outdo Sony at every turn, but anytime Microsoft takes a step forward, they take a step back. Come on Microsoft, help me like you!

Did you not watch E3? They blew Sony out of the water. Which was incredibly surprising given their spectacular failure at launch.

Could you give me specifics, please?

I was busy trying to reattach my jawbone from the Bethesda presentation. I've just never seen the exclusives for XBox as being all that worth making the switch. Everything I want to play is always on the PS4 or the PC.

That's funny, that's always been my reaction to the Playstation.

As for E3, Sony pretty much just had Last Guardian, Uncharted and Horizon. Everything else they showed was multiplatform.

Meanwhile, Microsoft impressed with Halo 5, Recore, Rare Replay, Tomb Raider and Gears 4. As well as putting a heavy emphasis on their support for indie dev titles. I'm especially looking forward to Cuphead and Tacoma.

They also became the first major console to support the handicap community with the new special first party configurable controller. And impressed with that HoloLens demo.

And finally, they surprised everyone with the announcement of backwards compatibility with the Xbox 360.

Tomb Raider and those indie titles are multi-platform... That pretty much puts the two on equal footing, in my eyes. All they have that I'm interested -- based on your list -- is ReCore.

The new Tomb Raider is supposedly only going to be on the Xbox One. I think it might end up going multi-platform later. I don't really care about Tomb Raider anymore. It seems like every time Toby Gard leaves the Tomb Raider team, you get mediocrity. The last Tomb Raider was literally trying to be Uncharted, and I think Uncharted is the one that needs to try being more like Tomb Raider. It's like the last Harry Potter movie was trying to do Twilight.

Yeah, Microsoft bought exclusivity rights for Tomb Raider. Which I'm pretty miffed about. That's a series that I own in its entirety on PC. So I'm hoping that later on it'll go multiplatform but as of now is only announced for the Xbox One.

And yeah I know the indie titles will be multiplatform but the point was that Microsoft made a point of emphasizing their support for smaller titles. Whereas this time around Sony pretty much ignored them other than Firewatch.

Yeah, if only Microsoft made computers too!

Yeah, it's pretty sad when a company that's dedicated to computer operating systems neglects their main moneymaker to prop up a sideproject. Thankfully though, it's looking like they're finally going to start supporting gaming on Windows with the original Gears getting a remastered PC release.

That's another about-face from the company that's slowly heading it back in the right direction.

Fortunately as the game wore on I started enjoying it much more, it became much more fun and balanced once I acquired all the powerups.  (and apparently whenever I start the game over next time I get to keep all the powerups I acquired on my last playthrough even if I start from the beginning, which is a major plus and means the next time I go through this series X7 will be much less of a headache)

After that I took a break from the action MegaMan X games and tried Mega Man X Command Mission, a turn based RPG.  Surprisingly, it was actually really good.  (I say surprisingly because the series was in a downward slope at that point, and making an RPG out of Mega Man X just sounds absurd on paper)  I enjoyed it, and as a first for ANY Mega Man game, it had good voice acting.

Now I've moved on to X8, and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised, it's easily the best (action based) entry since X5, and I've enjoyed it quite a bit.  One thing I really like about it is that it gave the 'edge' back to the series that it had been missing since the SNES games.  The SNES games were dark, brutal, and tough. The soundtrack featured (poorly synthesized though they may be) rock/heavy metal tunes and distorted guitars and really just gave it a full-metal feel.  Then the playstation games came, and while they were still fun games and the story still had the dark edge to it, the games were much easy, the soundtrack had more of a synthpop feel to it (which I'll admit was actually done pretty well, it just wasn't what I was used to), and for the first time we hear X talk and it has no edge whatsoever.  Finally, X8, brought back the rough tunes and heavy guitars to the soundtrack, also they kept the voice actors from Command Mission which means the voices are also good and actually fit the characters.  X7's voice acting was terrible except for Sigma.

“On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer” - Satoru Iwata, GDC 2005

Today, Nintendo confirmed that we lost Satoru Iwata yesterday.

Wow. I'm a die-hard Nintendo guy. I pretty much always have been. Iwata was the kind of public figure that made me proud to say so. Even if he didn't produce the video segments he was in, he always seemed to understand his core audience. There was something warm about his presence in Nintendo Direct conferences. He was a staple of their PR machine. It always felt like Iwata had keeping the fans happy in mind, especially with all the fun involved in those videos. He's been closer to center stage the past few years, and even though I never knew the guy, he came across as so genuine I almost felt like I did.. Rest in peace, sir. I only hope your successor will have as much fun with his/her job.

Beneath a Steel Sky

Pretty good little game. I was expecting a little more from it, but what I got I enjoyed. For a cyberpunk game there's a light-hearted, playful tone and lot of humour in it that feels refreshing. Dave Gibbons (of Watchmen fame) draws the artwork for the opening cutscene (which is styled like the panels of a comic book).

Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars

A friend recommended this to me after playing Beneath a Steel Sky. Great adventure game. The art style is wonderful, and there's a charm and playfulness to the story and characters. Some of the voice acting is a little naff, but it's all in good fun. I always love hand-drawn animation/rotoscoping in games, Flashback and Another World being other favourites of mine, as well as The Neverhood (which is actually stop-motion, but whatever). It's very rare to see that type of animation used in a game nowadays and I wish that they would bring that back at some point. I only just learnt that there's a puzzle involving a goat which is, apparently, meant to be infamously hard. I managed to figure it out in a couple of seconds. Oops! Every character is memorable and likeable (except for the bad guys, obviously). A real classic, definitely play it if you can get a hold of it. From what I hear, you should avoid the "director's cut" as it removes a lot of things from the original game.

Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon

HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT. Is this game awful. All the goodwill that I had for the previous game has completely vanished (I haven't been able to get a hold of the second game yet, so skipped onto this turd... sorry third) . Awful dialogue, awful controls, awful puzzles, awful camera system and (at the risk of repeating myself) an awful story! Awful, awful awful!! The camera switches around CONSTANTLY, meaning that when you're running down A STRAIGHT FUCKING ROAD you'll run right into walls and so on. You're having to continually fight against the camera and controls in order to make any sort of progress. Then there's the unskippable dialogue and cutscenes which are insufferable to sit through, and if you fuck up (and you will with the game's dreadful controls.) you have to sit through the same turgid rubbish ALL OVER AGAIN. Fuck this game.

The move to 3D was clearly a bad idea, losing a lot of the charm and that wonderful art style present in the first game (how is it that game that came out in the 90s looks better than a game from 2003?? WHAT THE FUCK?). Don't even get me started on the fucking box puzzles. BLEEEGH!!!! I have given up with this fucking piss-poor non-point, non-click "adventure" game. Play the first one and throw this one under a bus. AVOID at all costs.

I was able to buy a weird double pack at Target Assassin's Creed I & II (PC) for only $10 with tax. CD case sized but cardboard with both games in their own white paper with plastic window disc sleeves.

Funny after I finished both AC III & IV: Black Flag prior with the 360 wired controller.

How come is it I'm completely fine with modding TES Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout 3 and New Vegas I can't seem to get the hang of modding the GTA series? Especially IV and V.
