I know you talked about following up with another game where one of us kept the same army and another played with a different army, but I just bought a Chinese chess set. Now I've played it many times electronically against the computer, and so far it's my least favorite of the Big Three (the most popular regional variants in the world are chess, Xiang Qi [Chinese chess], and shogi), but I wonder if I'd enjoy it more playing against you. If you're interested, we can give it a go next.

Yeah, we could try Chinese chess. I've never played before, but maybe I'll end up liking it. It seems quite a bit different from shogi and chess. Do you find that it still feels like a chess-like game, or is it in a category of its own?

It definitely feels like chess, but, like shogi, it is still something very different. Very orthogonal, a lot of limitation in movement, but interesting in its own right. Most interesting are the cannon pieces, but you are already familiar with them because we used them in my Ito Shogi game. If we like it, we could move on to Korean chess, which is similar to Chinese chess, but with fewer restrictions and different cannons.

That was a clever move. I saw its potential coming earlier, but then after I stepped away for a couple of days, I forgot about it! I can't move at present because my computer froze up and I had to shut down yesterday. Gotta get the game back to the right point. And I almost typed a move last night before that happened, but things went awry. Anyway, I'll move this afternoon after work.
Well, I don't know if it will end up doing much. We'll see, I guess....
If my computer hadn't shut down at such a poor time, I would actually suggest we start something else. I'm not enjoying it much. However, the timing is bad because you made a good move right then and it wouldn't be fair to quit now. I just at present haven't had the chance to play back to where we were. I will get back to position at some point today and make a move. Gotta run.
Well, I can be patient, especially since the same thing happened with my game yesterday. :P
So judging by our recent PM conversation, are you up for a game of Chinese Chess? I'd like to try it as well as Korean Chess.
Sure, I'm ready. I assume we'll be using the Zillions version?
If you don't mind, I'll make the first move to get things going:
