STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread — Page 38

Call me superficial, but this image

has gotten me far more interested in the next season of Rebels than anything else. Ahsoka becoming a recurring character is nice enough, but seeing her with a pair of white/silvery blue lightsabers? *swoon*

Slowly but surely, it seems the franchise is moving away from the stupid RGB lightsaber colour scheme established by the PT and returning to the large spectrum that was commonplace prior to AOTC's release (at least in the case of Jedi characters). Here's hoping Rebels continues to (re)introduce more lightsaber colours and the ST follows suit.

I've always been curious to hear your reaction to the Jedi Temple Security's lightsabers.

I'm not fond of them having a double-bladed setting, but I liked seeing them just the same.

The new season looks awesome!

My gods that does look stunning! Like how Vader has a subtle hint of the McQuarrie concept art.

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

Insane how weak they made him in canon, the idea of Vader not snapping Kanan's neck immediately just seems ill-fitting.

Oh, yay -- more generic darksiders with spinning red lightsabers, mention of that stupid "ten thousand Jedi Knights" thing, and an implication that the stormtroopers are going to keep on being portrayed as incompetent jokes.

*sigh* Virtually all optimism I had for the second season just went down the drain. I don't know why I even bother feeling hopeful anymore; Filoni & co. obviously don't have the ability to see the problems in their storytelling and correct them accordingly -- they just keep making them over and over and over again.

At this point, I guess you could say I'm out. Star Wars on TV has proven a dead end as far as I'm concerned -- it's up to the films to invigorate this franchise for me now.

So, I just finished watching season one.

Overall it's better than what I thought when I watched the first episodes BUT... although I like the style of the backgrounds and the overall "Ralph Mcquarrie" style, I still think the last seasons of Clone Wars were just more beautiful and more visualy "detailed".

The thing that also made Clone Wars more interesting was the diversity of characters and stories. You could have one episode for kids with Jar Jar but then you'll have 3 episodes about a big battle, then some "characters episodes" centered about Obi Wan or Yoda or the Force itself, etc. While in Rebels, you almost have the feeling to watch the same sort of story again and again with some twists here and there to make the story goes on.

I hope season two will bring more variety to the stories, and I don't forget that I did not like much Clone Wars when it began either. So I'll give Rebels another try.

Is it just me, or does Rebels look too "empty" compared The Clone Wars? Granted, I've only seen snippets of both shows, but Rebels very much to me feels like a step backward (at least visually) rather than a step forward.

I love the trailer! But wasn't Rex a bad guy ? Or did he turn back?

You can see in one of the shots that all three of the clones had their chips removed to prevent them from reacting to Order 66 (reference to the clone trooper arc from TCW season 6).

When did Vader immediately snap anyone but his underlings neck to give you this expectation?

Saw the trailer and the season premier of Season Two at Celebration a couple of days ago and I was totally blown away.

Tobar really summed it up by saying that Season One is all about set-up. If you have given up on this show before the finale, it's akin to giving up on the original Star Wars before they get to Mos Eisley - you don't even know all of the characters yet! The best parts are yet to come, just like in Rebels Season One.

And so far, Season Two is kicking off much like Empire. It's dark and there's not a lot of hope. They're moving out into a bigger galaxy and bigger stakes. There are new enemies to fight, but there are new allies out there, as well.

All in all, I am really excited for Season Two.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Yeah, I got the impression that Vader was more testing them and attempting to break them through demoralization than trying to outright kill them as it's painfully obvious that he's totally controlling the fight very easily.

It does seem with this and the Clone Wars series we are seeing some of what many of hoped the PT would have been like.

Suited Vader hunting down Jedi was sorely missed in the films and yes I too get a hint of Ralph.

The oldster Clones are rather sexy :-D

I finished watching the first season the other day. I'm so glad I didn't spoil it ahead of time...though it probably would have been even better if I'd seen more than the first couple seasons of The Clone Wars (I never can remember which version has the "the" in the title).

Why would Vader have American currency? Wouldn't he use Imperial credits?

Ask Han Solo why he believes in Hell.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

The concept of Hell has arisen in many different cultures in many different times in many different ways more-or-less independantly. American dollars haven't. =P

True. But the concept of the unity of Hell, in the traditional Christian sense, isn't quite so uniformly spread across cultures, I think.

Really, the challenge of writing such a dialogue line is twofold: a) make up some religious phrases that sound believable for the inhabitants of a galaxy far far away; b) don't reduce the audience to conniptions of laughter in the process.

It's a tricky balance, and with ESB Lawrence Kasdan evidently preferred to err on the side of the latter option.

GL, on the other hand, evidently favored pseudo-exoticism in the dialogue of the prequels, often with decidedly tin-eared results ("younglings" comes to mind).

Ignoring the counterpoint already presented (which equally makes sense), I kind of like this.  One of my problems with the prequels was how overpowered the characters seemed.  It wasn't just how flashy the fights were - it was the sheer amount of power.  I like a Vader who's not, in fact, THE MOST POWERFUL JEDI EVER.  I prefer one who's just normally good at what he does.  Remember, Vader appeared in Splinter of the Mind's Eye and Luke & Leia were able to escape with help... not to mention Han Solo took him by surprise in Episode 4.

Probably should've gone in "random star wars thoughts", but whatever. it's almost 1 am.
