How about a game of Japanese Chess, i.e. Shogi? Now playing Shogi4 — Page 101

I haven't forgotten a rule, have I? I don't recall aligning with anyone....

It was the basis for the game...DE wished to make an attempt to vanquish our combined might...

Yes indeed, Ric, we started out with you and your old man allied against me.  I have a theory that your dad still could have won the game where he was allied against us, and essentially I am testing my theory.

Your theory, Dear Ender must be equally dependent upon the exact same criteria as before being met: namely, not only joint aggression, but also joint strategy. It was the combination that created the perception of an unwinnable game...as we shall be most pleased to demonstrate... ;-)

Also, is that pawn marching towards 5 TU or 6 UV?

Well, thank you all for telling me in advance... :P

Post, my pawn is moving towards 5rs, towards your army.

 Oh.

I remember quickly skimming that post without really reading it. :P

Well, I'm glad we got this cleared up this early in the game. I wouldn't have wanted to get my king promoted in the pleasure garden and checkmate my dad, only to find that I couldn't do either. ;)

Where is your father?  Aren't you your father's keeper?

LOL, I'm not sure what would have kept him away from us on a Sunday evening (unless he's busy programming, but that's no excuse to not make a move ;)).

Yes, sorry...I left my power cord at work so it was a pretty bland weekend...

Sorry, yes I did intend to promote.  I hope you will still let that pass, since that was my primary intent of my move.  However, judging by Post's move, it may be moot.  I'll need to look for a minute....

Yes, it appears I will need to capture the rook and lose mine in the process.  A clever move.  I thought I saw something good, but it wouldn't work, so we'll stick with the most straightforward approach.

Alternatively, you could have saved your rook and let his get away, but I'm quite happy getting a new rook.

Also, which pawn did you use?

Ric, kindly deploy your extra rook to op6 upon your earliest convenience...

I used the pawn on 8xy.  My apologies.

Yes, I could have let his rook get away, but I think having two rooks in the same army is actually a good thing, so only one can move per round.  Nevertheless, this is tricky business.

There is something wrong with my board. Ric, is it possible for Ender to have had a pawn at 8xy? How can his lance reach L-7uv?

I'm pretty sure it's his board that's at fault here. Both of those are impossible, but I'm assuming it is 8yz and 7tu that are meant.

Under that assumption:

I hope you're not planning on taking it away....

Yes...sorry, but you did not think I discarded my rook in favor of a knight did you? I was saving your bishop after all...

You guys might want to retract your moves.  I meant to say 6uv, not 7uv.  If you wish to make different moves, let me know.

Author

I've no reason to change mine. I don't know if my dad wants to take back his and let my rook defend his knight, which would be nice....

Author
Time

Well now you do know...nope! Let us proceed as previously indicated...

The shoe on the other foot makes me appreciate the gravity of your situation in our last game, Praetorian.  It's difficult to know how to navigate against two armies.
