I think even earlier in this thread there's been speculation about Threepio having a red arm in the sequels from some photos of some chairs that a company was producing.

Nobody was sure if his arm was red or if it was a red light reflecting off his arm. Now we know C-3PO has had yet another spare part added.

So Leia can't simply afford a new arm for him? Or having it spray-painted gold at least. Isn't she supposed to be the leader of the New Republic or something in the sequels? I can get the silver leg in the OT, because back then they were basically just a guerrilla army with very few resources. Hopefully we will get a logical explanation for it in the film.
