Info Wanted: THX-1138 Original Warner Brothers Cut (1971) - has anyone done this?

I was wondering if anyone has ever done this project or would consider doing it.  I think this is a historically important film in its original version.  I have seen the original cut (not the laserdisc cut) available from a 16mm print, but it’s in several very, very, very large files and it may be rough.

I don’t have the resources, but for someone who does, may be a worthwhile thing to throw together…

P.S. And my apologies if this topic has been covered before.

Someone has already done this and it's on myspleen in 720p and 1080p. I don't think there is a DVD5 but personally I'm happy to see the scene move away from the MPEG2 format. Hopefully you can re-encode the 720p version without difficulty.

Ah, I see it now.  And it's in black and white, I see.  Well, the 1971 Director's Cut may have to do, for me.  I prefer to watch my movies in color!

Good historical record, though.

1978 Director's cut, you mean?

I made a reconstruction of the 1971, using the Bluray and laserdisc, synced up to the 1971 audio. It's on myspleen if you would like to take a look, but it's obviously not the real deal.

I call it the 1971 Director's Cut because the official story (according to what I read) is that the '78 version is exactly the version that George Lucas handed in in 1971 before the studio played with it.

However, given George's penchant for remembering things a little differently than they happened, I guess we can't be 100% sure.

That's very interesting; I would love to check it out.

If you go over to the THX preservations thread, we talk about the differences between the 1971 version and the 1978 version. The strange part is that they are very very similar. There's an extended scene with SEN and some children and a re-order of various shots.

It's definitely a change, but nothing like the studio meddlings of Brazil, Magnificent Ambersons or Greed. Seems as though ol' George has exaggerated the situation a bit.
