In sum, the DVD I own is the 1998 MGM one in the 1999 Warner package. The sound mix is apparently faithful to the original one but misses the line "I read you". The LFE channel is sometimes active.

According to Spaced Ranger the 1999 Warner DVD seems to contain the same mix but including the dialogue line.

The other Warner releases on DVD and BD (from 2001 on), and presumably the DCP version, contain the new mix of the film, which is unfaithful to the original one (different dialogue mix, stereo surround, partly different surround content, etc.). The LFE channel is more active than that of the 1998 DVD.
