I actually have a few questions regarding E.T. Bare with me if this post is long since there's a lot to explain. I know that the 2012 BluRay/DVD of E.T. is the theatrical cut, but it still uses a remixed soundtrack that features new sound effects that were added for the 2002 enhanced version. When both cuts were released on DVD in 2002 the DVD of the original cut still featured a few of these new additions. This includes the effects that were added for the new digital shot of E.T. hopping to his feet and walking toward the town after he realizes he's been left behind which is followed by the sound of birds flopping away (I dont even think there were birds in the shot, its been a while since I saw the 2002 film) and radio static as the feds and Mary rush to the abandoned van. There's probably a few others as well but those pop to mind. None of my VHS copies of the theatrical E.T. has these so I know its lifted from the 2002 soundtrack. The 2012 version removes the static but the sound of E.T. hopping to his feet followed by the non-existent birds flopping away remains. This just looks and sounds out of place with the original scene. Also I know that the none of the VHS versions have Mary's full line where she tells Michael he's not dressing as a terrorist. Anyways someone on another site mentioned the BluRay edition has a 2.0 mix and says its sounds identical to the original. I dont have a BluRay player so I can't check this for myself. Im just curious if anyone here had the E.T. BluRay and wanted to compare the 7.1 track to the 2.0 track?? I only have the 2002 and 2012 DVDs which only has the film in 5.1.
