I recently found a nearly 120 year old anthology book of historical primary documents that was being given away for free at my local library. It's pretty interesting to read, and the footnotes are pretty cool since they come from historians of a time when the Spanish-American War (which they refer to as the "Spanish War") was a current event
Wow, that's neat. My family inherited a large number of books from a school that shut down and was purchased for use as a factory by my dad's family, so we have a lot of history books from around the time of World War II, and some older. In grades 8 and 9, when I was homeschooling, in addition to my more up-to-date resources, I used a book from 1929 and another from 1946. It can be interesting to see the perspectives of the authors in relation to the way we view things now. The one book suggested current or recent newspapers and magazines for further reading on World War II. :)
