 Well it's too bad because the colors are FINAL [/obvioussarcasm]

Image quality looks great. And the color should be well within the realm of fixable, as with most of the team's reels.

The colors look excellent. It does remind me of some of the photos from that private screening Mike Verta had a couple years back, where he used an actual 1977 projector with an actual 1977 bulb.

I do think late 70s/early 80s prints often had skin tones trending towards orange. Not having been there, for some reason this feels like I'm watching a 70s print as it might look projected in a cinema in the 70s. (I recall Roy Scheider looking kind of orange on the print of Jaws I saw last summer; even though that was struck some time in the late 90s or 2000s, it looked to me like it came off of an intermediate with original 70s color timing. It just felt 70s.)

I don't really want everything to look neutralized and normalized like the old home video transfers, I want to see something that still looks like a print actually would have looked. Just my two cents.

One thing I noticed for the first time when Luke & Han enter the throne room is looking on the extreme sides and seeing the obviously fake looking "extras".

Maybe some things are better left hidden? :D

I hope you are suggesting that they do all their posts while driving in a car.

I also hope I don't live in the same city as any of them.

Aren't these bunch of screenshots a bit off in terms of aspect ratio? It seems to me that they are stretched vertically.

I have a question, if you were to compare the 35 mm preservation to the 2011 bluray how would you rank it in terms of detail on a scale from 0-100 (the bluray being 100)?

If the bluray is 100, and nothing is allowed to go above that 100, then your scale is invalid. As much as it seems to offend you, the 2011 bluray is not and will never be the end-all and be-all of a detailed star wars image.

I already explained, it's "Kan't Fix That For You."

Alternately, it's "kay fixed that for you."

Or, it's "fixed that for you" with an accidental "k."

...

Accidental Kay is my long-awaited unpublished novel, btw.

The Bluray is the most details source of the movie available so far. The 35mm LPP and other prints fall short of that many times over.

Just look at the sample clips, and compare them to the Bluray.

Some of us think the detail on the Bluray is great. It's the colors and other things that are wrong. But that's acceptable to many people.

Use your own judgement if you want to make a comparison.

Again, it's still early to give updates, but as far as recent developments go.

============================

Reel 1 - Started, Intro / Crawl done + 5 min - 40% completion

Reel 2 - Completed First Pass

Reel 3 - Approaching 90% completion

Reel 4 - Approaching 50% completion  (Might be more).

Reel 5 - Completed First Pass

Reel 6 - Started, End Credits done +5 min - 40% completion

Those numbers where given are rough estimates only.

Reel 1, and Reel 6 are coming along quickly with added machines and another member working on them.

We also have some replacement shots lined up that will speed up certain segments.

The Greedo sequence has been replaced by a higher quality sequence.

Starfield shots, and some darker sequences are also for replacement.

Since there are different types of shots throughout the LPP, we will try to match the different ones without too much of disparity between them.

==============

We know that the amount of original film data is being altered by the cleaning, but almost all of it will be seamless, and unless you do a frame by frame comparison, it will not be noticeable.

Duplicate frames will be removed, and lost frames will replaced from other sources.

Again, we are not going to go by GOUT standards, or try to conform to it.

If people want to alter it afterwards, that will be up to them.

We'll continue posting progress on the clips, as we get them.

 I apparently completely failed at saying the exact same thing (minus kan't).

 No, you didn't fail.  He just (apparently) didn't understand, so I restated it.

Here are some shots from Reel 3, we might have posted them before.

There is a section where Ben is talking to Luke after they are burning the Jawas. On the original, there was a large anomaly, where a green area moved onto the screen and the back of the right hand side.

This part has been been patched as you can see in the video:

It's a shame that this holiest of SW holies won't be GOUT-compatible. I'm sure plenty of people will want to mux in their audio preservations that Harmy has included in his DE cuts.

We don't think it should be that hard to edit the video to fit to other Standards. It's just that we don't want to limit ourselves to an older format for it.

Granted, the GOUT probably has the most complete set of frames available though.

It would be nice to have other audio options, but since we are syncing it with the optical soundtrack from the 35mm, it might be harder to adjust later on.

The mono mix, 35mm stereo mix (English), and Spanish 35mm will be synced to it though.

I'm sure there will be attempts to edit the sound from other versions though.

@Danfun128

Who's being offended? I think the bluray stinks to high heaven. However, having seen the samples I thought it very unlikely that the 35 mm LPP would beat the bluray in terms of detail, but since the video samples are compressed and the ESB Grindhouse looked very good, I was curious how the team would rank it. That's not such a weird question.

 And to be fair, we've barely seen any of these full-quality, cleaned, uncompressed, colour-corrected scans in motion, just a few seconds here and there from the HD DEs of Star Wars and Empire. Probably the best example from those two is the--very brief--shot of Lando speaking into the mic in Empire, which looks tremendous, and unless I'm mistaken that's only at 720p.

I'm a bit surprised that the 35mm print would have less detail than the blu. Yes the blu came from a better source, but on the other hand the 35mm print would have been projected onto a massive cinema screen without complaints.

Are there any comparison pictures showing the difference between the Blu and -1 handling fine details?
