Neither of these statements are relevant. There are free alternatives to newsgroups. And if a project is only made available on newsgroups, then you are forced to pay for it. No one is forcing you to use recordable blu-rays.

You're right, there ARE alternatives. Vines are one of them. B&P is another. They both come at some small cost unless the person helping others out is generous enough to do it for free because they can afford to.

If people don't want to pay for newsgroup access (which is a small cost) what makes you think they want to pay for blanks and postage .... usually, they don't. They want FREE, no work or contribution on their part, just FREE.
