Does Reel1 still have duplicate frames?

Luke threw twice…maybe.

OK, I seriously don't understand this.

You claim that the version you're sharing is a raw capture, without any color correction, but still you say it has "slight" blue tint.

On the previous page you posted before and after pics from (I guess) this version, the top version has no blue tint visible, the bottom version has HORRIBLE blue tint.

So I'm sorry but I'm totally confused - which version is which?

I think the more normal working one is their grindhouse that they've recently uploaded? And the horrible version is a WIP that for some reason is called the color corrected but we shouldn't worry because 'all colors are temporary' etc.

I've just downloaded their version and it looks normal. No blue tint.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

Well I read the description and below it you wrote

That's why I got confused. Thanks a lot for the share.

It's not good solution (in V1 is huge difference), may be is better to transfer missing scenes from lower source (16mm).

But how is possible that 2min+ is missing from reels what Poita have?
I mean it's unpossible that he forgot to scan it... someone cut them out from reels?

I'm curious how will looks second transfer.

This 8mm transfer looks so nice & really unique.  :D
I wish you will preserve it in best way you can.

Cheers!

This section was most likely damaged beyond repair, or entirely missing from the print. It's old, and has probably been handled by a lot of people.

Nope was just missing on the HDD when I sent the scans to the US, one of the reasons I want to rescan, I'm not at all happy with the original scan.

Just to be clear, this scan had nothing to do with the -1 team, as far as I know they picked up the raw scan from Anctu and decided to do stuff with it (which is fine, that is what it is for, I'm happy for them or anyone else to do whatever they like with it). I have nothing to do with the various versions of it that have appeared/may appear.

As for it replacing Puggo's version in any way, that is just nonsense. It is just a scan of a Super8 release, and not a very good scan, it was really just a test of the scanner to see if the Super8 version was worth archiving, and for others to mess with as they see fit.

Each scan is what it is, I'm all for open discussion as to which versions have more detail/less detail, grain and contrast differences etc. as I find this stuff interesting, but the notion that somehow a scan of a Super8 film somehow replaces someone else's scan of a 16mm film is kind of beyond me.

I'll be having another crack at it when well enough to do so, people seem interested in seeing what the Derann release looked like, and it does have some differences to other film versions, so it seems there is enough interest to do a good job of it.

Just enjoy the scans folks :)

This is the new version, that should become a standard, especially replacing Puggo's 16mm for film fans of the original.

Being a big fan of your work, the last thing I want to do is sound defensive.  And I have never, ever claimed the PG was anything but a grungy curiosity with mild research value.  But comparing our respective posted screenshots, I'm a bit confused by your above comment:

 I agree completely.

I can understand the dislike of the yellow, I'm not sure what the purpose of tinting it blue was?

Just my $0.02, I haven't watched the Super 8 yet, but from the stills it looks to be in a lot better shape, colorwise, than the film that Puggo scanned, especially since reel 2 of PG is so faded. (obviously I'm speaking of the original colors, not the "for people who don't like yellow" colors)

BTW, any ETA on the re-scan?

Is it just me - or are there no stars in this version of star wars.

There are no stars in the scroll even if i crank the luninace and contrast up.

The picture looks very dark.

2 questions

1) the sound is slightly off - is it just my computer/player/codec(s)?

2) there are some parts in the sound mix which I don't remember hearing anywhere else. Just one random example - the stormtroopers walking on the bridge in the scene where Ben shuts down the tractor beam. But the truth is I'm not really used to listen to Star Wars in English, so does anybody have an idea if it's just a problem with my memory?

Poita -

realizing that you aren't happy with how this scan turned out, I'm curious as to why it looks as different as it does to the original clip you posted on page 1 (no longer available) of this thread. That one seemed stable and cleaned-up. Had you done a little post processing on that one, or am I misremembering its astounding quality?

Author

I don't remember what clip was posted on page one, if anyone still has it, I will take a look.

The Derann prints?

Derann UK bought the rights to do Super8 releases and ran off quite a few. It was all above board and sanctioned.

I wouldn't go that far, we'll probably have to wait for 35mm for that. But it is very nice.

Thanks for putting it together, and thanks for sharing the scans poita.
