Much of your weight loss is likely in water, but it is also certainly real weight. The question is which is which. You should always weigh yourself at the same time each day for an accurate picture. Typically 2-3 lbs/week is okay, and more is generally not good.
I weigh myself the same time daily. And I don't know if I was quite clear enough about this, but I'm not starting out on losing weight, which is why I was skeptical about it being water weight. I lost about 15-20 pounds at about 3 to 4 pounds a week. The concern is for the last week or so it's been 1-2 pounds a DAY. I do drink a ton of water. Here's my typical day, beverage wise, and I mean a work day not a crazy fun day:
3-4 bottles of water
5-6 beers
2-3 glasses red wine
1-2 shots of brandy
1 glass of cranberry-grape juice with 2 shots of gin mixed in (it's WAY better than it sounds... it's amazing actually)
Actually with all that alcohol it's amazing I'm able to lose weight at all now that I think about it, maybe it's affecting my appetite and I'm not realizing it. I actually feel pretty great these days, it's just the 1-2 pounds a day thing that worries me.
Alcohol is a diuretic and makes you pee. Thus you still are likely losing more water than you take in.
