Quick update from kk over at tehparadox:

After Interstellar my next release will be The Empire Striked Back Semi-Specialised Edition V2.2 16gb version and soon after the Return of the Jedi Semi-Specialised Edition V2.2 15gb version so no worries, I definately intend to release them. After this release they are my top priority.

Which German audio can I use for this?

Darth Id on ‘Why “Ben”?’:

And while we’re at it, we need to figure out why they kept calling Mark Hamill’s character “Luke Skywalker,” since it’s my subjective opinion that his name is actually Schnarzle Shnuzzle.  It just doesn’t make sense!

Damn you George Lucas for never explaining why they all keep calling Schnarzle “Luke”!

Damn You!!!

Update from tehparadox:

kk650 presents: Regraded The Phantom Menace Regrained Edition V2

Technical Specs:

Name: Regraded The Phantom Menace Regrained Edition V2

Size: 22.8 GB

Video: 1920x824 H264 23.976

Audio Track: English DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1

Subtitle Track 1: Alien Subtitles in English

Subtitle Track 2: English Subtitles

Subtitle Track 3: Spanish Subtitles

With this V2 release of The Phantom Menace, as well as adding grain to make the film look more filmic, I have also regraded the film to remove the constant blanket red tint found throughout the whole blu-ray.

The overly red sunburnt fleshtones of the blu-ray have also been adjusted to closely match the more natural fleshtones of the Star Wars Semi-Specialised Edition V2.2, making this film more visually appealing and consistant with the latest Semi-Specialised Editions. Like the Star Wars Original Trilogy, The Phantom Menace was also shot on film, as will be the new Star Wars films coming out thankfully. Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith were both shot on digital.

Like many, I was unhappy with the all the DNR (Digital noise Reduction) that the official blu-ray of The Phantom Menace had that scrubbed away lot of the detail, making everybody in the film look very waxy, so I decided to try and see if I could reverse the DNR by adding some film grain myself.

By adding some fine grain to the transfer, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of detail that I was able to recover that I hadn't even noticed before on the blu-ray. All this detail that had been hiding beneath the DNR had just come right up to the surface, making this new regrained version of The Phantom Menace look more filmic, as it should do because it was shot on film, but more detailed as well, all considered, a big improvement over the original blu-ray transfer IMHO, especially when viewed in motion.

I hope you like what i've done here. Please post back here with your thoughts or even a simple thanks, it would be really appreciated :)

Thanks for keeping everybody updated Jackpumpkinhead! If there's interest I could create a 8gb release of The Phantom Menace V2 as well.

I have just uploaded the new regraded and regrained V2 release of The Phantom Menace to myspleen. V2 regraded releases of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith will be following very soon, as will the Empire Strikes Back Semi-Specialised Edition V2.2. I hope you all enjoy what i've done with these latest V2 regraded releases :)

I can attest that Star Wars looks amazing with what he's done. I personally appreciate the larger file sizes for best picture quality and lossless audio!

A 8GB would retain (obviously) the color regrade, but NOT (or, at least, not all) the grain - according to various tests I made with grain plate; I'm sure kk will agree with me... just my 2c!

Thank you kitt for your kind words, they mean a lot to me.

The first Star Wars film holds a very special place in my heart, it was the film that started me off with colour grading in the first place, so I wanted to get it just right both in terms of editing and colour grading.

I personally feel like I have reached that goal with the Star Wars Semi-Specialised Edition V2.2L, it is very gratifying that there are others apart from myself that feel that way.

I agree 100% Andrea, I don't think that the 8gb will do the regraining justice IMHO, the bitrate is simply not high enough, though of course it will still look better than the DNRed blu-ray.

The colour grading is another matter of course so the improved colours alone would be enough of a reason to warrant a 8gb release IMHO. If Jackpumpkinhead is still interested in an 8gb release I would be happy to create it.

Just last week I had a conversation with an old friend about how we wished we could order a set of OT blu rays and pick and choose which of the various changes to keep and to ditch a la carte. Your list is exactly what we came up with. I just finished downloading Star Wars 2.2, and unfortunately it's way too late to watch it start to finish, but I jumped around to a few scenes and the job you've done on the color is really spectacular. I'll be waiting for Empire and Jedi 2.2 with baited breath.

Can't wait for Empire and Jedi of the semi-specialized. They will probably become my go to editions just like the semi-specialized of New Hope is.

@joefavs and ApexAftermath: Thank you guys for the kind words, it means a great deal to me :)

Seeing as its Star Wars Day I thought I would prepare a little treat for those waiting for The Empire Strikes Back Semi-Specialised Edition V2.2, two preview clips taken straight from the upcoming release:

Which fan edit were you confusing these semi-specialised editions with?

What a wonderful idea and something I've been wanting to do myself but never really starting it!

Really like the idea of watching the films with only the good special edition enhancements - of course this is subjective but I'm going to be using these to produce my own hybrid version which will essentially be Harmys version but with the special edition space battles and this versions intro to Mos Eisley.

Could anyone PM me the torrent? I don't have access to teh paradox due to ISP. Or maybe they are on MySpleen?

Managed to get this from MySpleen and it's great! You simply cannot beat the special edition sound battles, absolutely brilliant.

Can I ask if there any plans to put TESB and ROTJ on my spleen also?

Yes I agree, the Special Edition improvements like the intro to Mos Eisley and the much improved Battle of Yavin really make a big difference to me as well. Just because some of the SE changes are bad, theres no reason to write off all the good changes as well. That's what editing is for, to allow you to have your cake and eat it, best of both worlds :)

Thanks! I just released The Empire Strikes Back Semi-Specialised Edition V2.2 on tehparadox, I should be able to have it up on myspleen in the next day or two.

As for Return of the Jedi, I haven't finished the latest version yet but it shouldn't be long :)
