At the risk of becoming annoying, can anyone give me a myspleen invite for this, so I can use it for my edit? I've tried asking for one on the myspleen forums to no avail.

I apologize if this has been answered and if you can just give me a simple answer that would be good, but what have you done with these films? I downloaded your ROTJ and was amazed at the detail and clarity of the film, also the audio seemed more immersive, for ex. the star destroyer flyby in the beginning.  I also downloaded TESB and ROTS, but I really didn't notice anything new done with them.  I like to have as many versions of the movies that you guys put out...Harmy's, Ady's and now yours.

@lordsidi These are just 1080p HD versions of the 2004 DVDs of these films. They were preserved by combining elements from various HD broadcasts. The video should be clearer because it's in HD but afaik the audio should be identical to the DVDs.

EDIT: Is there any reason the alien subs are burned in on these? That's going to make it difficult to use for my edit.

I'm going to start working on some small improvements to this project and plan to post versions 1.5 in the new year.  I plan to go through the entire saga and clean up any bad frames that are still present.  It seems that ROTJ has quite a few little glitches during the Endor scenes especially.

Would anyone who downloaded these be willing to help me out in finding bad frames as it's kind of a daunting task to go through roughly 1.2 million frames.  I'd just like an extra pair of eyes to help make this perfect.

I've already started going through Jedi, as I think that is the worst offender.  AOTC should be pretty much good to go as there were so many errors to fix in that one, but another look might turn up some other things to fix.

I'd also be open to other improvements as well, if there are any suggestions.

I included the burned in subs because all of the sources I had had subs present.  I wanted to avoid pasting in shots from the Blu Ray, especially for TPM and AOTC, since they were so heavily altered.  It could be done pretty painlessly for ANH and ROTJ though.

PS. Sorry that I never really participated in this discussion after posting.  We had a new baby and we were out of town on vacation for almost three months.  I (and my wife) also felt like I needed a break from Star Wars for a while ;)

Do you want me to send you the R4 audio track from AOTC? It wouldn't need any patching, unlike the R2...

That would be helpful.  I assume it's PAL and would still need to be re-encoded.  Thanks

Yep - I suppose maybe someone could send you the NTSC version instead and then you won't need to re-encode?

Is there an NTSC version with the DD 2.0 track?  The R1 DVD version doesn't have it.  I'm not sure about the Japanese release though.

Edit: It appears not.  The Japanese version has English and Japanese 5.1 Tracks.

I have no issue with the burned-in subs, but I wish the TPM subs looked more like the AOTC ones. The AOTC subs look like I remember them looking in the theater, while the TPM ones look like Blu-Ray player-generated ones.

Otherwise, great work on these! BD-R copies of your TPM and AOTC have now replaced the official discs in my Blu-Ray set. (I still prefer the official BR ROTS overall, and I'll never watch the 1997 or later versions of the OT anyway, so I didn't bother downloading those four.)

It's clear that the AOTC subs are the theatrical versions, while TPM, ANH and ROTJ were text streams.  I think, if you had access to the original .TS recordings for those, you might be able to strip the subs out entirely with something like ProjectX.  However, as they are commonly available, they're burned in.

Does anyone know if the original .TS recordings were ever available for either the german or british 1080i/p rips?

Ah, I was worried they may have been burned in from the start. That's a shame. I don't know anything about the original .TS recordings myself, though, I don't even know where to find them.

Audio Sources:

Track 1) English DDEX 5.1 from DVD releases (prequel tracks have had the EX flag set using "exme.exe")

Track 2) English DD Surround 2.0 from DVD releases (AOTC was sourced from the region 2 disc, but had to be fixed and re-encoded due to pal speedup.  Patched headbutt scene with audio from the Spanish 2.0 Mix.)

Track 3) DVD Audio Commentary from DVD releases

Track 4) Bonus - not publishing it here.

Track 5) Spanish DD 2.0 from DVD releases.

Track 6) French DD 2.0 from DVD releases.

Subtitles:

Track 1) English Subs

Track 2) Spanish Subs (I think I got these from Subscene, but I can't quite remember)

Track 3) Speaker names and titles for the DVD Audio Commentary Track (From DVD)

there is missing the german audio and subtitles....;-)

Well, I can include them, if someone shares them with me.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

2004 DVD versions.  I'm not too familiar with the different PAL releases, but I assume the German dub was available somewhere on the 2004 release.

Oh OK, so you only want the 2.0 track? I'll send you a PM...

Update: I've finished going through Jedi, and it had a ton blurred/blocky frames that I've fixed.  It was by far the worst of the six films in that regard.  For some reason almost every shot of the Endor battle had these encoding errors.  I don't know if the broadcast encoder had issues with the leafy background, or what.  I'll post a sample to show what I'm talking about later.

Of the other five, AOTC was by far the worst to deal with initially, but I think I've already taken care of most of its issues.  The other four shouldn't involve too much work.

Yeah, I just need the 2.0 track. It's missing from the NTSC releases, for whatever reason.

Hi schorman13 ! Any news about versions 1.5 ?

I'd like to watch the OOT one more time with my wife (and ten more times by myself !) before seeing Episode VII, but she want to watch the Prequel too :-/ So I'd like to see a TPM version without CGI Yoda, and yours seems to be the best :)

Do you need french subs to include them ? Can I help ?

Thanks a lot for this preservation !

Hey Gimli, I had actually put this on hiatus after completing new versions of ROTJ and AOTC, which were always going to be the most work to finish.  I used the hV versions of the saga as my main backup, since I wanted to avoid using the blu rays as a source, but since they were re-encodes, the quality was a little too low, and kind of discouraged me.

I tabled working on the other four films until I have more time this summer, but after reading the HDTV database thread and getting hold of the original rips for episodes 1-3 & 5, I'd like to get to work on them within the next two weeks.

I'm currently downloading the Cinemax versions of the OT and will need to compare them with the Sky versions before working on them more.

I would love to add french subs to these but I don't have a source yet.  If you have a rip from a French DVD set, that would work best.

Cheers

Hi, thanks for your complete answer ! I will give you the french subs from the french 2004 DVD PAL set, I just need some time (honestly I don't know how to do that yet, and I plan to move in a few week so I'm running out of time) :)
