Maybe does some mental good in the short-run, but, as bad as slavery was in some cases, it put food on the table.

I'm not saying that slavery is preffereable to drugs, I am just saying that they are different types of vices, not to be compared.

ask a slave how feels after being a slave for 1 year he do the same to a person that does drugs on and off for a year.

Well I assume they would be equally crappy. Slave to drugs, or slave to a man, take your pick.

But it depends largely on who the master of the slave is or what drug you use. Not all southern slaves were like Uncle Tom's Cabin, and not all drugs mess up your life.

But most do.

And, not all slaves were the same. Most slave-owners had only one slave who did the same amount of work as the master & in a lot of cases the slaves had better living conditions than some whites. The slaves were expensive like new cars, u take good care of them.
I just hate stupid people.

there are to types of addicts just like there are two types of slaves. some slave masters were very cruel to ther slaves others were kind but ther average slaves really didnt enjoy themselves. the same goes for man drug users. there are some addicts that go over the top and become street ppl, and there are others that do it once or twice. the average however, and this is from my experience i know alot of ppl who do and have don drugs, the average will only do it casually when they are with friends. these ppl dont get there lives ruined. when i made my comparision i was comparing the averages.

I don't know enough about drug abuse to know what is "average"

For that matter, I don't know who to believe enough about slavery to know what was average there, either.

Pop culture is a big part of it, but you cannot lay all blame on them.
If parents would concern themselves with their kids lives, it would nullify at least part of the pop culture influence.

And even the parents shouldn't take a full share of the blame.

I believe that the underlying factor in all this is money and greed.

- Entertainers continually push the envelope to make themselves the most popular (which in turn leads to money). If you've seen the Southpark episode about the 'Curse Words', recall the talk around the TV network board table. That should give you a general idea of what I mean.

- The cost of living grows at a faster rate than raises (for whatever reason...maybe a couple has their a new baby, which increases their cost of living). As a result, both parents end up working, leaving the kids to sitters or (for older kids) coming home to an empty house where they are not given the TLC they need.

- Those people that have too much money turn out jaded and not understanding the real world, i.e. look at Hollywood. They've lost perspective.

The problem is, that sometimes the media finds ways to circumvent parents.

Think of Channel One News...
